The last gen Pioneer players (the DV610 and possibly DV410) had this feature already. You can 'rip' audio tracks from your CD to MP3 with a USB stick and select the quality of recording.
Their even older DV600 had a very handy ability to play Audio & Divx files straight off of a USB stick (and I know people who had a hard-drive running from it for movies and music)
....and yes, my experience of the 6 series is that they are superb DVD, SACD & DVD-Audio players.
The audio is it's strong-point, especially the analogue outputs - 24bit DACs and burr browns at this price are a very good deal.
i was a proud owner of the dv-400 for a year til i got a PS3. besides it being a little crushy with dark detail, this is the next best thing under an oppo, IMHO. that faroujda upscaler does a hell of a job...
