I betcha it was actually recorded with the full knowledge of the band. Viral attempt for the win?

Well thats a given I think. I've seen a few camera angles from these recordings and there is simple no way that up to 7 cameras that are HD capable recorded this kind of footage from 3 concerts in a row.

By Trent Reznor's past over the last few years.... this is definitely their (Nine Inch Nails) doing..... they knew the big Blu-ray/DVD was not happening anymore and decided to do this as a last ditch effort. Great stuff!

Not viral, at all - Reznor merely likes to play dumb when posting stuff like this - maybe for humor, maybe for legal reasons - whatever.

During the last leg of the tour, several notices were posted by Trent regarding which shows would have a relaxed taping policy. This came after Rob Sheridan (artistic director/tour photographer) explained that the band doesn't just tape shows at will because the venues charge video fees. At all of the designated shows, the setlists were exactly the same, and several crew members were spotted with video cameras.
