Panasonic makes it official: Profile 2.0 DMP-B15 portable Blu-ray player
Hard to say just how well this thing will or won't sell, but honestly, we see the value here being the portability and not necessarily the inbuilt display. The DMP-B15 portable Blu-ray player is fully Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) compliant and features an 8.9-inch WSVGA screen, VIERA Cast support, an HDMI output and an SD card. It'll ship this May for an undisclosed price -- so, do you (or your child) plan on picking one up?

I wonder why the thing doesn't boast wifi. What's the point of a portable device if you have to tether it to an ethernet cable. Come to think of it, why arent other players (except for the PS3) offering wifi? It seems like a very obvious feature.

With over 100 BD movies in my collection now, I'd definitely consider this if the price were right. I've been using my Portable DVD player significantly less since I got into Blu-ray.
As for 2.0 features, I've barely used them on my player as it is. I can't imagine really wanting to connect to BD Live with a portable player, Wifi or not. I suppose its nice the ethernet option is there.

This is so useless, the resolution isn't even up to 720p and the screen size is so small for anyone to notice the difference between 1080p and anything else =\
Bozster @ Jan 9th 2009 10:27AM
Ha ha.. yep..that' the world of 1080p.. why in earth would you buy blu-ray portable player?! But again, the same goes for 1080p TVs below 40% yet the hype wins over brains.

I could see my kids using this one. They would break this $1000 toy in no time. I'd be too damn scared to even give it to them. Besides what's the point anyway. Blu Ray on a 7" screen...probably looks no better than a movie on my iPhone anyway.

It's useful for folks who own nothing but Blu-ray Discs. I'm not one of them, but they are out there.

this is great. If this were $200 I'd get one for sure and get rid of my portable DVD player.
Useless? Ignore the screen size. Nobody is watching a blu-ray on a portable player in order to experience awesome PQ; this is about being able to watch your blu-rays anywhere.
This is also a useful tool to take to relatives' or friends' houses and show off blu-ray.

He's right. Portable DVD players are lesser quaility than regular DVD players. Portable means you can watch a movie on the go without lugging a TV with you. So the screen's small. If it plays Blus alright, then I'm sold.
JBDragon @ Jan 9th 2009 2:05AM
Ya, the Screen Size to Blu-Ray Resolution really isn't the Issue. It's not having to also buy a DVD copy of the same movie just so you can play it anywhere other then your home system.
If the price is right, great, but I'm looking at it and $500 is popping into my head. Well OK $499.
It would be even better with built in Wifi, and a Digital OTA tuner to watch HDTV on it when out with this thing also. Why not!! Hell make more use of the Wifi and add in Netflix movie streaming also. With all that, a $499 price is starting to look a little better.

Yes its about time. I can't wait for May. This should sell very well if the price is in order.
