Rumor has it that Samsung is set to reveal an ever-so-thin HDTV prototype at
CES this week -- a
clear trend going into the show. There's a paucity of info about it as of now, but we hear it's going to be anywhere from 6.5 to 7mm thick, and it doesn't appear to be part of the possible
lineup we saw leaked a while back. "Thinnest HDTV" ever, huh? We'll see about that soon enough: Samsung's Vegas press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.

As long as you can remove the base, I'll acknowledge that it's the world's thinnest TV, provided that you can remove the base. That's right Sony, that a direct jab at you! You can't say a TV is 3mm thick when you can't remove that monstrosity of a base. Even if you could fold the screen flat against the base (which you can't, nor can you even fold it parallel to the base) it would be still be one ugly ass TV to look at!

What's with this obsession to make "the world's thinnest tv?" How about making an 60-70 something inch LCD with 120hz more affordable first.

Agreed. I'm getting really tired of hearing about how "thin" these new TVs are. Who cares?? The difference between a 5cm thick TV and 5mm really doesn't matter. But the press, engadget included, just seems to want to jump on the bandwagon and reinforce all this talk about thinness. Let's talk about things that matter, like performance, features and price.
