Put down the bubbly and nearest willing stranger for a moment, if you're a
Time Warner Cable subscriber, you may have noticed that your MTV Networks channels -- including everyone's favorite
Palladia / MHD -- are still there, even after a very public squabble threatened to turn them dark around the same time everyone's
Zune started working again. Both sides have confirmed the cable giant reached an agreement in principle with
Viacom, without revealing how it happened. How much did Viacom end up getting? We may have to wait for the next TWC rate hike to know for sure.

As I recall TWC announced a January rate increase of 3 or 4 dollars awhile back anyways.

I just switched to FIOS yesterday. Goodbye TWC. After 5 years of mediocre service with TWC I am thrilled to change service to FIOS.

I don't understand the big fuss. Some of those channels (Nick, Noggin, etc.) are the ONLY reason I even KEEP digital cable. It's the ONLY way there is something on for my son in the evening. Without those channels, my digital cable would be history. I think most people would rather pay another $.25 a month than lose those channels. Time Warner has no problem raising rates any other time-so why the big stink now? Oh, how I would LOVE to have Comcast Cable back!!

I think the joke is on us really. I think this tit for tad was just a show to make people think TWC / BrightHouse cared if prices went up. They knew they would end up paying the price. After all they just pass it along to us.

My mom subscribes to TWC and I have spent the last 2 days showing her just how easily she can get rid of the cable company and replace the service with a Blu-ray player or PS3 and streaming shows from Hulu and our home server.
The problem, she doesn't want to buy a box for each TV, but I guess its OK to keep spending $60 a month on a crappy commercial packed service. I guess as long as there are people like my mother around, TWC and companies like Viacom can do whatever the hell they like.

I'm not sure I'd miss MTV. Would any of you?

it may have been averted, but not all Viacom companies have been told. tonight i heard on 97.1 in los angeles a big 60 second ad attacking Time Warner Cable, saying they pulled the networks and telling people if they are mad to get directv or other alternative carriage.
funny thing is ... the channels never were pulled, but the attack ad's were still running... AND... obviously no mention of the huge price increase Viacom was asking for.
hah!
