Mitsubishi's 65-inch Diamond WD-65835 RPTV HDTV reviewed
If you've been eying something a touch larger than Samsung's 61-inch HL61A650, why not consider Mitsubishi's WD-65835? The 65-inch Diamond series set was overshadowed by the altogether more intriguing LaserVue when it was introduced this Spring, but there's still a lot here worth loving. The surprisingly lightweight set was found to have accurate colors, "convincingly deep blacks" and a "bright, punchy, dimensional image," all of which sound characteristically Mitsu. Truth be told, critics had a tough time knocking the image quality at all under real-world scenarios, noting that its "exceptional contrast and solid blacks" easily trumped all but a few flat-panels. All that praise for a 65-incher under three grand? Smells like a winner if you've got the space.

Good Review and I've got to believe that this set can be had for closer to $2k than 3. No, it's not flat, but judging by the number of people that actually mount their set on the wall vs on a TV stand, flat really isn't as big a deal as many make it out to be.
If TI wants DLP to remain relevant, they need to cut the price of their light engines. If they go low enough it's possible that we could see some 3 chip DLP RPV sets. Those would be VERY nice indeed.

Well, i am a bit unhappy with Mitsubishi, their pricing on the Laservue sets are incredibly out of wack. and they only have their 65" model out, no news on release or price on the 73" model.

Nice review! I have to say I was so close to buying the 73" model wd-73835 within this
last month until I called the location to asked if they had it which it wasnt. So that has left
me searching for my next set non-stop giving me a dam head ache. I really like the Laservue but
7G's, 6 1/2 if I'm lucky for get it! Way over priced. Now I'm just waiting patiencetly for CES 09
to see if Samsung will offer a bigger version of the "950" lcd cause a 55" just wont cut since
the TV its replacing is a 70" SONY.
BTW does anyone alse get the problem when you type in the
comment square expands into the dam ads to the right of it blocking most of what you write?
IE6 here.

Oh, there will be a larger 950 (or the line that replaces it), but it's going to cost a lot more too. That's the thing that rear projection has over flat panels, every extra square inch of size doesn't drive the price up exponentially. Sure they cost more, but not nearly at the same rate.
Btw, Firefox 3.x and IE7 work just fine. Unless you've got a specific application that requires IE6, you should upgrade to IE7. If you do, then keep IE6 and use Firefox 3.x for browsing as IE6 support is probably going to disappear sometime in 2009, after all the last service release for it was five years ago.

If Mits would do some serious advertising they might take some sales away from the competition. By they way, the Mits is flat, on the front where it counts. Of all the people I know that own flat panels not a single one has them wall mounted. Sitting on a stand just like my 60A3000.

I have the 73835 and it rocks. It's not deep at all and i got it 'for a song'. Considering all those that put their TV's on a wall - unless you have a dedicated component room - you're STILL going to need a place to put your receiver, DVD player, TiVo, etc - and that means a 'stand'. So I have a 73" TV on a stand that houses my Denon 3808, Wii, PS2, PS3, CD-R, XBOX 360, HD-A35, and HDTiVo. Where else would i put it but on a stand? And considering the TV should only be a certain height off the ground (eye level) - my TV and stand are totally awesome...and as Po would say..."there's no charge for awesomeness..."

Out of curiousity, I just ordered a 73" Mits. And I'm now looking for a stand wide enough for it. I'm not a huge fan of the Mitsubishi branded one. What did you use?

Salamanders are pricey, but well worth the $$
