Troutdale, Oregon gives Verizon blessing to offer FiOS TV

Who knows if council members were just signing lines to get their holiday started early, but the Troutdale City Council nevertheless approved a video franchise for Verizon with an "ambivalent" four-to-three vote. We're told that Troutdale, Oregon has just over 3,000 potential FiOS TV subscribers, and while not everyone was super jazzed about the passing, we can only imagine that locals in search of pay-TV competition will be thrilled. Too bad there's no apparent time line for a build-out.

Why would anyone vote against this? Really? 4-3 vote. Who are these 3 people? Are they comcast family members? What was their point?

Hopefully Salem, OR finds their way to Fios with no one voting against it.

iamjoecollecotr - Verizon has no plans to build over within QWEST areas. Maybe in the far future (2015) but as of now their goal is to cover their whole foot print with Fiber...give or take.

Troutdale congratulations. Us West side residents have nothing but high praise with FiOS TV service. Currently 102 HD channels. Enjoy the day when you call up Comcast to cancel your service. I sure did.

Yes!!!!! Finally us Troutdale residents will get FIOS TV. Troutdale has a population of at least 14,000 so I don't know where the 3,000 came from. I'm tired of DISH taking away my local channels like KATU(owned by Fisher) from me. I can't stand the DVR, quality and price Comcast delivers so I can't wait for FIOS TV. I know the FIOS DVR that Ben just reviewed might not be as good as the DISH VIP622 I currently own but its still worth it beause DISH still does not carry Comcast Sports Northwest. I'm screwed out of half of the Blazer games with DISH. I've been with DISH for almost 10 years now but its time now to move on.

Also thank you very much Robert for voting In favor of approving Verizon's franchise agreement. You just earned another vote from me for city council.

Verizon has been working for the last year or so putting the fiber into the ground in Troutdale. With the approval of the franchise agreement, Troutdale residents should be able to enjoy FIOS within a few weeks, according to Verizon.

I voted in favor of approving Verizon's franchise agreement because our citizens wanted it, and more competition certainly is better than more government regulation. (My opinion only, not necessarily the opinion of the rest of the city council).

I wish Comcast will die in the Metro Atlanta area. They are a monopoly in Metro Atlanta and offer poor service and higher prices in our area. I wish we had more choices like Verizon, and no we can't get the DISH or DirecTV cuz of the trees.
