Charter Communications isn't abstaining from
expanding HD channels as the holiday season approaches, as it has announced that four new high-def stations have launched alongside four digital SD nets in St. Louis, Missouri. Available now are Food Network HD (760), HGTV HD (761), National Geographic HD (768), Golf HD (772), Hallmark Movie Channel (122), ReelzChannel (145), American Life TV (146) and The Sportsman Channel (772). According to Steve Trippe, Vice President and General Manager of Charter's St. Louis operations, the carrier now provides "more than 400 HD choices that are instantly available at any time," which definitely does not translate into a remarkable amount of linear HD channels. Still, nice to have a few new ones, right STL?

a lot of st. louisians will be dumping charter very soon i predict. why? because charter is in another fight with cbs/kmov locally over payments for carrying the local feed. as of jan 1, charter will no longer carry the local cbs feed. the same fight happened a few years ago between the two over the HD feed and charter dumped it also. screw charter, i am going to someone with more HD programming.

Addition by subtraction. They "added" 772 (Golf HD) by taking away Versus/Golf HD (the previous channel 772). In other words, they took away the Versus HD without adding it elsewhere. Golf HD is completely worthless, while Versus HD has some value (specifically, hockey in HD).
The useless Golf HD goes along well with Weather Channel HD (channel 794), another useless channel. Makes you wonder who makes the selections on which channels to suck up valuable bandwidth (Charter in St. Louis does NOT use SDV - yet).
Charter in St. Louis has, of course, also been without CBS in HD due to the dispute between greedy Belo and Charter and is now going to lose the standard definition feed as well (see: http://www.kmov.com/charter/).
Now, the good news: supposedly Charter is supposed to add MLB Network HD, USA HD, and Sci-Fi HD in January....no word on any possible rollout of SDV yet.

I guess the fight with CBS is finally over (for now). After years of losing CBS HD, it is finally back. I can't believe it took them this long to secure a major network on HD. I remember losing it just before the Super Bowl. What was that? 3 years ago?
The ONLY reason I stay with Charter is because they are the only provider that supports Tivo HD.
I hope the rumors are true about USA and Sci-Fi. I'd also like to see FX.

Yeah, same here. I won't bother getting any TV service that doesn't allow cable card access. It's pointless having all those HD channels without a dependable recording platform like Tivo.
Also USA, Sci-Fi and FX are probably one of the first stations they should have picked up. NOT Weather Channel HD and Food Network HD, lol.
Too bad "The Shield" is finished. I really wanted to see that show in HD.
P.S. - Where did you hear the rumor about USAHD and Sci-FiHD coming to Saint Louis Charter?
