Viewsonic introduces 24-inch, 1080p VT2430 LCD TV

It may be leaving things a little late, but Viewsonic is apparently hoping that its new 24-inch VT2430 LCD TV will attract the eyes of a few holiday shoppers and, judging from the specs, it seems to stand a pretty good chance of doing just that. Leading that list is full 1080p resolution, which is certainly a nice bonus on a set this size, as is the promised 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, assuming the results actually live up to that number. Otherwise, you can expect a built-in ATSC / NTSC / QAM TV tuner, HDMI 1.3 connectivity, 250 nits brightness, and the usual VGA, component, s-video, and composite inputs to accommodate your non-HDMI devices. Best of all, it packs an MSRP or just $399, which likely means you'll find it even cheaper if you do a bit of shopping around.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I don't understand why it's such big news that this monitor displays full 1080p. Don't most, if not all, 24" monitors have a 1920x1200 display resolution? This would be considered "full" 1080p by any definition. What makes this monitor any better?

It's not a monitor it's a tv so it has a tuner to get OTA channels, great for dorm rooms, so that you can use it as a monitor and watch tv without having to buy a separate tv.

Oh. Duh! Maybe I shouldn't read things when I'm tired. Well then, I guess this might not be so bad but the price still seems a bit high to me.

I don't think $399 is high for it's features (and 1080p resolution, HDTV tuner etc). Gateway has that 30" monitor-only (at 1600p resolution and premium image processing chip), but it retails for $1600, although I saw it on sale a week ago (online) for $999.
Viewsonic usually offers good products at value prices. I like the look of this product. Three years ago I purchased a Sony 17" Widescreen 720p HD monitor (only has the analog tuner), which cost almost $600, so this Viewsonic 24" 1080p model with digital turner is a great bargain at $399 retail, and maybe less within a few months at dealers like Fry's Electronics.

The VT2430 is a perfect size for my Motorhome where I need/want to mount it.
I installed a 22" Vizio it is just a little small.
I had to buy the VT2430 online, my concern is the TV new out of the box did not work at all.
Viewsonic is sending me a replacement, I just hope this was just a one time glitch.
I never got to see how it worked before I bought it,this TV appears to be only available online. And I still don`t know how good of a set it is after I bought it,yet anyway.

My opinion on the price the 22" Vizio cost $300 @ Costco,Costco had a 24" Samsung for about $360 but you cannot mount it it only has a stand.
I found the VT2430 online for $359 so $399 max price is not to bad as long as the TV will work, that there is what I would consider the most important feature I would like to have.
