Blu-ray releases on December 16th 2008

With about a week to go until Christmas and a week after The Dark Knight, it's no wonder this week's lineup is way less than exceptional. So because there really isn't anything to get too excited about we're going to prop up a title that we'd bet will be a classic one day, Old School. If you haven't seen this one and you enjoy a good laugh, what are you waiting for? If you have, and can't wait to enjoy it all over again for the first time in HD, then say it with us, "You're my boy blue!" Also this week, Criterion's long awaited titles finally hit the street along with plenty of catalog titles form Paramount and Universal. Universal has what is arguably the biggest day-and-date title with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, but it's IMDB score of 5.2 has us unimpressed. Next week slate isn't much better, but it does have one we're looking for with Burn After Reading.- Bottle Rocket (Criterion)

"enjoy it all over again for the first time in HD" What do you mean for the first time in HD? I have this on HD-DVD and have been "enjoying it in HD" for months now thank you very much!

While have HD DVD, and a few Blu-Rays Now, (I still like HD DVD BETTER) I still plan to buy FEW Blu-Ray's, but will just rent from Netflix while streaming lots of movies onto my 360. I see nothing on this latest list I would want to get. Hell there's nothing there I even would want to rent.

I would have to say that Mama Mia is also a title that will do quite well. As for the 5.2 score in the IMDB, this film did better boxoffice (The Mummy) overseas than it did here. While there are many bad reviews, if you search all of the "I loved it" reviews you will find many posters on IN=MDB that really loved the film. People should not judge a movie by a IMDB score. To each their own:-)

This is the week that should bring the videophiles out. Lots of Criterion releases. Over-all I expect a drop in share as the PS3-demographic isn't as well served this week as it was last week, but the figures will at least be fairly reflective of where Blu-ray is heading.
If I was supportive of Blu-ray, this would be my week.
