I didn't have any luck streaming HD with any 200Mbps power line extenders if you got further away than the adjacent room. Some areas even had problems streaming 480p.
If you have a single story (or crawlspace), running the cable will perform much better.
I tried 3 different brands with no different results.

Well, the fact that they state performance as "up to 200mbs" says it all. It's not guaranteed and will fall back to slower speeds based on line quality, wire distance, etc.

I hear that surge protectors/power conditioners really screw these up so keep them away from both ends of these things

I've got a pair of netgear one's and they seem to work fine, haven't done any bandwidth tests on them but i can get 4 or 5 people playing an mmorpg on the other side of them and it works just fine.

I've got ZyXEL's powerline offering with included switch and am getting throughput of ~60-80Mbps.

Who cars about sending compressed video over household power if you STILL have to have a box at the display to UNCOMPRESS it?

Yes. but you may playback with your PS3.
(leave movie file in your PC or DLNA server, playback with PS3 via HomePlug AV)
Or, buy a small PC (like ASUS eee Box) as your HTPC.

Too expansive.
I just buy a pair of Homeplug AV 200Mbit device:
ZyXEL PLA400 - with 4 port hub.
ZyXEL NBG-318S - with 4 port hub + Wifi AP.
Total price is US$129. It's work very well.
