If they can offer all this performance for $500 - $600, why is the Denon so expensive.
I guess their internal components are hand made by midgets living in the north pole. And for every Denon product made they have to sacrifice a baby to Home theater Gods.
We need more companies like oppo. I would like to see them create a receiver and speaker system. Excellent quality, dirty cheap price.

There are more companies like Oppo, you just have to search to find them. One I can think off of the top of my head is Outlaw Audio, who makes amps, pre-amp, receivers and I think just recently branched out into speakers. I have come across a few companies that all they do is amps and they are more affordable then their high-end name brand counter parts. I would also maybe consider companies like Paradigm, PSB, Energy, Axiom, etc... to be companies like Oppo, they all have great speakers at affordable prices.

Other companies besided Outlaw are Emotive amps/speakers, AV123 speakers, and of course the subwoofer specialists SVS, Hsu, and Epik... One recent review of SVS vs similarly priced Velodyne subs revealed that the SVS woofer with a 10" cone has a magnet/motor structure that is almost 3 times the size of a 12" cone from Velodyne that is at the same price class... Of course it won the comparison performance tests hands down...

No, it's just irrational. And if your irrational decision ends up you paying more for the exact same item, you're actually hurting the economy by being an inefficient consumer.

Irrational says you. Everyone has their own motivations for buying what they buy. It's perfectly rational to choose out of principle to purchase something made in the USA, whether that's to support the local economy, for potentially better quality, or some other reason.
How could someone end up paying more for "the exact same item"? If it's made in the USA, and another product is made in China, it's NOT the same item.

And based on that statement the most efficient life is one that ends right away with use of the least resources?
Efficiency is maybe not the best way to rate human actions.
And you maybe didn't even notice his underlying motive, or you did but played ignorant?
That doesn't seem very efficient either, So who was the irrational one again?
