Insight testing 100Mbps high-speed internet in Kentucky
Details are exceptionally vague at the moment, but Insight Communications is currently testing an internet service capable of hitting (theoretical) download speeds as high as 100Mbps. Not that we haven't seen similar services offered from fiber providers or anything, but generally speaking, 50Mbps is the high-end of what DOCSIS 3.0 provides. Then again, the article never specifically mentions said protocol, so we're left to wonder exactly what's going on and when it'll expand from this so-called "trial" stage. Can you tell we're tense with anticipation?[Via DSLReports]

I live in rural KY and I bet I NEVER repeat NEVER see anything like this. I'm lucky I have 3.0Mbit DSL (that only runs at 300k during peak time... grr).....

Actually, current DOCSIS 3.0 can go as high as 148 Mbps DS . . . even higher in the future

I understand that the US created the internet. So why do other countries have internet speeds now that put the speed here in the US to shame?

because we in the US have had copper laid for ages. Unfortuantly we dont like upgrading apparently. Over seas alot of countries were developing their infrastructures when newer tech was out. Hence not having to succumb to old slow lines with problems.

They should add this to the welcome centers on the KY line, people may actually stay for this...

Well, I live in the Northern part of Kentucky and I have their 20Mbps service, which ironically pulls 30Mbps most of the time but I am definitely not complaining, its still damn fast.
But I just wonder how their going to go over the DOCSIS limitation of 50Mbps? Maybe they will just continue a two-speed system like they have now (you can get rather 10Mbps or 20Mbps), I am sure they will have 50Mbps for current cable equipment and maybe 100Mbps requiring a new modem.
But my best guess here is that the 100Mbps is going to be for their Insight Business sector, which I am sure they do offer some fiber lines and whatnot.
