Election Night 2008 brought about an
unprecedented amount of HD coverage, and while we're all in absolute agreement that CNN's "holographic" interviews were the
comedy for the evening, we're interested on your take on how networks as a whole did with their high-def presentation. Was CBS' polished graphics set enough to overcome those embarrassing audio gaffes? Did ABC / FOX have the edge? Where did you find yourself tuned to most of the night? Drop your vote (hey, there's a concept!) below.

Why isn't PBS on the list? That's who I want to vote for.
John @ Nov 5th 2008 2:13AM
No kidding, the commentators might be older than the other networks themselves, but at least their HD quality is second to none. Never thought old people could look so...old, in a good way.
rkolsen @ Nov 5th 2008 2:20AM
I watched NBC and MSNBC. They both seemed pretty impressive. For over an hour though my NBC affiliate WBAL was downsizing the NBC News coverage. I found their use of virtual studios very impressive.
As for the CNN hologram, I thought that sucked, and was completely useless.
Bennie @ Nov 5th 2008 11:32AM
I was wondering why NBC in Baltimore wasn't in HD.
Patrick @ Nov 5th 2008 2:35AM
Uh, forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be possible to watch only one broadcast at a time to give a fair vote here? And who the hell wants to watch all of them???
trex1993 @ Nov 5th 2008 4:37AM
There were SO many commercials that I found myself flipping quite often actually.
I agree with rkolsen. The "hologram" was lame and pointless. And will.i.am? Really?
Evan @ Nov 5th 2008 3:20AM
Directv's election mix. 8 channels simultaneously and easy to avoid the commercials
WizKidRyan @ Nov 5th 2008 11:16AM
DirecTV Election Mix HD FTW! Why isn't that on the poll?
xzi @ Nov 19th 2008 1:46PM
Election Mix HD on DIRECTV + Ron and Fez's 2008 Thunderdome on XM! Brilliant.

My local NBC, WMAQ Chicago, sucked. Ever since they went to HD last winter, the technical aspects of their newcasts has become a joke, and tonight would be the joke of all jokes. Instead of going with the national NBC telecast, which there HAD to be as all the nation wouldn't want the local graphics, etc., WMAQ stayed with their digibeta cameras, which BLOW! Thankfully I was also recording ABC which had a gorgeous telecast, so they got my vote. For shame NBC5. The Brian Williams broadcast though was nice, but I kinda felt that the "virtual studios" were a little giniky. I'm interested to see how that "hologram" worked (or didn't work) out.

Same here in Omaha, NE.
CBS, NBC, and FOX screwed it all up by placing the local results in a bottom line feed, which totally screwed the national HD feed.
Only ABC got it right in my market.
CNN people just like to hear themselves talk out loud.
Zhent @ Nov 5th 2008 3:51AM
We got the NBC feed here in Australia. The coverage was pretty good and the quality was not bad (but could be better), the on screen data was also nicely done.
The feed did occasionly drop out but thats to be expected when carting it halfway around the world.
sideshowRaheem @ Nov 5th 2008 7:13AM
CNN had holographs Star Wars technology trumps all.
S4Rs @ Nov 5th 2008 8:04AM
none of them. they were all poor in HD. I almost got the polls burnt into my plasma while I was eating dinner, so i said forget it.
Ben @ Nov 5th 2008 8:21AM
MSNBC doesn't go until the spring.
Spiza @ Nov 5th 2008 8:37AM
The better question is if you're ready for the ObamaNation?
Prey521 @ Nov 5th 2008 9:23AM
Unfortunately, we have to be ready!
Prey521 @ Nov 5th 2008 9:22AM
The CNN hologram was horrible. I was amped when I heard about it and was hoping that it would be something ELSE than what they had last night...what a waste. That Launchpad screen on FoxNewsHD was pretty pimp.
John Cloudman @ Nov 5th 2008 9:58AM
The graphics on the HD feed of CBS won me over. I thought the information they put in the vertical bars on the side of the screen gave an easily readable and constant summary of the state of the whole election.
Matt @ Nov 5th 2008 10:20AM
I thought the big three (NBC, ABC, CBS) Hd coverage sucked.
go4broke @ Nov 5th 2008 11:07AM
I preferred CNN's coverage because they were the most, what I would say responsible. Rather than making early predictions they waited a while before making projections to ensure they were accurate. Most other networks were making projections too soon in comparison.
I didn't like their analysts as much though, I thought NBC had better analysts. It was an interesting night.
Tom @ Nov 5th 2008 11:42AM
I found myself watching CNN the most and I'm usually a Fox guy. We don't get Fox New in HD yet. CNN's graphics were the easiest to read and didn't feel cluttered or overbearing like other networks.
DEEZNUTZ @ Nov 5th 2008 2:00PM
I liked how FOX News covered it best. They called the states faster than CNN, and eventually said "F*** it, Obama Won, lets just put it out there". I could be wrong but it seemed like FOX News called it before the others, and it looked like the crowds reacted after FOX called it.
JimC @ Nov 5th 2008 2:50PM
Brit Hume was the best!
extrasport161 @ Nov 5th 2008 4:37PM
How is a network calling it sooner a good thing? I'd rather have them wait and actually make an accurate projection than calling it too soon and "oops, turns out gore didn't really win florida... or did he? he didn't. he did? we don't know... we do?"
I think CNN had the best graphics, and who really cares about what they're saying? I had it on mute and was trolling the internet, just looking for the updates. holograph was pretty lame though...
Navstars @ Nov 5th 2008 4:59PM
I really liked BBC America's virtual set. And CNN's Perceptive Pixel screen was awesome. Those two were the best of the night. CBS and ABC had very well designed graphics were my next favorites. Fox and NBC had atrocious graphics.
Garst @ Nov 5th 2008 10:30PM
Where's the "There was an election?" option? I voted, but I did not pay any attention to the TV yesterday. Watching what amounts to a dry loop isn't what I would call entertainment. I'd rather read a book than work what was on TV.
