Make it four: Cablevision also increasing rates in 2009

You know it how it goes -- come one, come all. As the price hike bandwagon continues to grow, we now have Cablevision joining the likes of Comcast, Charter and Mediacom, who are all raising at least some of their prices on cable. Reportedly, Cablevision will be escalating prices by around 3.5% on average in 2009, and while spokesman Jim Maiella points out that said rate is "below the current rate of inflation," we can't imagine that making everything alright in the eyes of customers. Of note, the outfit's triple-play promotion (TV, high-speed internet and digital phone) will remain pegged at $90 per month, and the carrier is asserting that the rate hikes are going to fund its Wi-Fi initiative and VOD enhancements. Makes you feel all better inside, doesn't it?

For most people the increase is $3 a month plus the combined cost of a cable box and remote will increase 25 cents.

i find it funny that this happens right at a time when most people will be switching over to cable due to the loss of analog signals.
price gouging anyone?

Cablevision always announces their rate changes at this time of year. Why would most people switch to cable due to the analog shutoff? You can get digital signals with an antenna and there are those government subsidized converters if you have an old TV.

Forgot to mention that even if you are switching from OTA to Cablevision, they aren't raising the price for broadcast basic, at least not on my system.

THATS WHY I DUMP CABLE VISION THEY RISE EVERY YEAR AND SERVICE ISN,T ANY GOOD.WHAT YOU PAY FOR NOTHING.EVERYONE SHOULD DUMP ALL CABLE AND YOU SEE HOW THEY CLEAN UP THERE MESS.

PERHAPS ITS DUE TO SQUANDERING OF FUNDS. I HAVE AN EX, THAT MAKES 82,000
TOO CHEAP TO PAY CHILD SUPPORT, IS A SUPERVISOR AND I JUST LEARNED DOESN'T
HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. HE IS GIVEN A COMPANY VAN, USES IT FOR
PERSONAL USE ALL THE TIME SINCE HE DOESN'T OWN ONE, GASSES UP AT
COMPANY EXPENSE, DRIVES BOATS TO THE MARINA WITH IT AND LATELY SHOWS UP
TO HARRASS AND THREATEN ME. CABLEVISION, WHAT A WONDERFUL COMPANY
