TI promises Dual View DLP demos at year end

Initially teased at CES, Texas Instruments promises the future of DLP could include two people sitting on a couch wearing odd glasses, watching the same television but seeing two entirely different things while actively ignoring and disregarding the other's presence (at least one will have to wear headphones.) While passive aggressive Fridays at the Engadget lounge are always interesting, whether Dual View can catch on with the rest of the world or find a better use, like hiding Madden playcalls, remains to be seen, but should be soon since the company announced Thursday that it plans to show off the tech by year end.

This seems to be a variation on how DLP currently can deliver 3D content. My Samsung DLP set runs at 120 hz and claims it can project two 60 hz 1080 images that can be viewed through shutter glasses to display a 3D image. I've not had the chance to see this happens due to Samsung's sloppy marketing of this feature of their set's capabilities but it doesn't seem like a big jump from two related images to two independent images being swapped in a 120hz timespace.
The article didn't mention it but it would seem that headphones would be a must to keep the two audio streams separate.
Please don't read this as a negative comment. I'm all for experimentation and pushing the capabilities of this technology.

Oh super, now you can watch TV with terrible viewing angles, uneven brightness, all while wearing goofy glasses.
