TWC adding 11 HD channels in Greensboro, NC, Triangle seen fuming
You can't be serious. No, really -- this cannot be happening. Merely days after Time Warner Cable did its best to appease rightfully frustrated Raleigh-based subscribers with four new HD channels, in flies word that our pals up I-40 are getting set to receive 11. It's been no secret that TWC favored the Triad in the high-def department, but this is just blatant. Beginning on Wednesday, Greensboro, NC-area customers will see SPEED HD and Bio HD hit the lineup, with Fox Sports Network South HD, Cinemax East HD, Cinemax West HD, Starz HD, The Movie Channel HD, Weather Channel HD, FX HD, Hallmark HD and Pay Per View HD joining that duo "in the coming months." Suffice it to say, Triangle dwellers everywhere are hoping and praying for that U-verse investment to amount to something sooner rather than later. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]Update: A new source asserts that TWC will begin the rollout of 20 new HD channels in its "Carolina Region" starting on October 29th. Unfortunately, there's no mention of what areas will get what channels, we'll remain cautiously pessimistic that the entire state won't see all 20 until we hear otherwise.

Hi -- I'm the director of digital communication at Time Warner Cable, and I'd like to clarify a few things here.
We're rolling out up to 20 HD channels over the next several months, depending on the division. Different technical issues apply to different divisions, preventing us from doing a massive simultaneous channel deployment. Hence the staggered rollout times -- but rest assured that we want to give everyone as many HD channels as we can as soon as we can. It's part of staying competitive in this business, and it's important to us.
Here are the channels that will roll out over the next several months. Some will appear on Wednesday, and the entire list should be completed by sometime in January --

Wow, nice to see a response from TWC. Glad to see you guys are coming around here in Raleigh especially. Dish Network still has you beat by a mile, but glad to see an effort is being made.

Any way that we can get Jeff to give us regular updates here in the Triangle? I've been with Time Warner's HD service for four years now and I'm happy to see more channels, but I'm still less than impressed.
Where's the SciFi HD, USAHD, FSN HD, and all the others???
mbumb2k @ Oct 28th 2008 1:42AM
Preach it Krithen!
tonight, my dvr went black after 9 minutes of recording a 2 hour show.
luckily, TWC doesn't see that as a problem, so they still get my money.
Does anyone know how to constructively complain to TWC? Because calling their customer service line doesn't get you anywhere, just people who (mostly) don't care, and will flat-out lie to you if it will get you off the phone faster. I don't want to pay for something that doesn't work. I guess I'm just anal like that.
btw - I went ahead and started looking into directv and tivo. this is just ridiculous.

mbumb2k, middle of the evening tonight watching a show on regular TV my screen just goes black. show comes back on for a few seconds, and then does it again. Sort of destroys the television watching experience. This happens on a somewhat regular basis for me with TWC. They've sent technicians out to 'troubleshoot' and I have spent countless hours on the phone with support. In the past three months I have dropped my phone and internet connection (which was always spotty with Time Warner) to return back to ATT. Time Warner's pricing is all over the map. I was paying $40 more for the same service vs. someone (not on an 'introductory' plan) who had the same lineup, services, etc. Try calling to complain about that one only to be told you're lying. Some customer service they've got there
The ONLY time I was offered even a hint in a cut on my rate (a very small one at that) was when I called to cancel my service. Uverse can not get to Raleigh fast enough. My understanding is possibly a few months more as the ATT guys are all over my area right now. I am truly looking forward to the day when I can take my Time Warner boxes for my television into their office and tell them to stuff it. I have lived in North Carolina my entire life in different areas and their service is the worst by a mile

Depending how you count, I see 14 or 15 more HD channels scheduled (I am in zip code 27519 which is next to Raleigh).
