Top 10 films that should be released on Blu-ray -- do you agree?
Sound & Vision has a rather interesting article up about the ten films that it most wants to see released on Blu-ray, and while we concur with the most of 'em, we're interested to see what you readers think as well. Before delving into your fanboy-ish desires, however, it's important to note that past popularity isn't necessarily a sign that a particular movie will be re-released on BD. As we've learned before, there are quite a few variables that studios take into consideration outside of just public perception. We're tempted to blurt out all ten right here for discussion, but we know how disgruntled some of you folks get when spoilers are sprung on you.

That looks like a list of top box office money makers to me, lame.
Nick @ Oct 26th 2008 11:10PM
We need Jurassic Park on blu ray. Earlier this year I almost bought a laserdisc player off craigslist because I've found that the LD version of JP was better than the DVD (as many movies are), also 20 bucks for a player plus movies would've been cool. Too bad someone else got to it first. I'd pay good money to hear T-Rex bite the shit out of Jeff Goldblum in DTS-HD.
Passion of the christ? Don't christians usually spend money on collectible Dale Earnhart plates before buying consumer electronics? Honestly, that was the worst movie I ever saw, ever. No one would buy that on BD. Gone with the wind... The sort of people who watch that wouldn't buy it on BD. The only people I know who like that movie are all my older relatives and a smattering of my artsy friends and relatives. The common thread amongst all of them is that none of them owns an HDTV, much less a PS3.
The rest of them seem to make sense. I'd buy back to the future, alien, jurassic park, and I have amazon emailing me the second star wars comes out for preorder, and I still don't understand why lucas is willing to throw money at ruining the indiana jones franchise with the fourth one, but is not willing to throw the other 3 on BD.
Jason W @ Oct 27th 2008 9:47AM
No dumb ass we dont just buy Dale Earnhart plates.
I would put my whole house hd vs yours any day.
Nick @ Oct 27th 2008 12:41PM
Yeah, until your god takes it all away on a ridiculous dare from the devil.
TrentD @ Oct 27th 2008 2:22PM
Nice closed-minded ramblings, Nick. The thing I like about non-Christians like you is how tolerant and loving you are of those with different opinions!
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Oct 26th 2008 11:12PM
I want to see HomeGrown, Sideways, Boogie Nights, Event Horizon, Caught Up, American Beauty, Last Action Hero, and the Friday Trilogy on Blu-Ray.

Galley @ Oct 26th 2008 11:32PM
I believe that "Gone With The Wind" ha already been announced.
keithgregoire @ Oct 26th 2008 11:38PM
Event Horizon has been announced for December 30 in the US.
ChadT84 @ Oct 26th 2008 11:44PM
There are only a couple of movies on that list that I want to see on BD. LOTR Trilogy and Jurassic Park.
Ryan @ Oct 27th 2008 12:11PM
I want some freaking Saving Private Ryan!!!
Ron @ Oct 26th 2008 11:58PM
Saving Private Ryan should be on there..
michael @ Oct 27th 2008 9:55PM
hell yea. along with Gladiator.
h0mi @ Oct 27th 2008 12:13AM
Passion of the Christ? Meh. Color me indifferent. Same with Titanic and Aliens but I'd definitely watch them on blu-ray.
Ghostbusters was supposed to be out a month or so ago. What happened?
Can't argue with the rest of the list though.
coreylucas @ Oct 27th 2008 12:20AM
SinCity and LotR baby!!!
Matt @ Oct 27th 2008 1:01AM
Jurassic Park NEEDS to be on Blu-Ray, all three of them, and then the fourth if it ever gets made.
"More importantly, despite a decade of CG advancements, the film's raptors and T-Rex still hold up to close scrutiny."
Hmm... the T-Rex I can agree with, but the raptors? Not so much.
startswithaj @ Oct 27th 2008 1:34AM
all I care about is the Back to the Future Trilogy...
Walter @ Oct 27th 2008 6:23AM

GenBanks @ Oct 27th 2008 5:22AM
I want the Gladiator on bluray...
JT @ Oct 27th 2008 9:41AM
Agreed. It's the one movie not on Blu ray that I so desperately wait for.
Jon @ Oct 27th 2008 6:01AM
i am Waiting patiently for Fight club ....... And Moulin Rouge should look amazing ..
WebDev511 @ Oct 27th 2008 11:15AM
+1 on Moulin Rouge. Might as well do the whole Baz Luhrmann set while their at it.
The Pixar catalog comes to mind too.
If you're looking to drive adoption, then Passion of the Christ, Titanic and Gone With the Wind are good picks provided they transfers don't get botched.
mda3333 @ Oct 27th 2008 6:50AM
Why would I want to waste my time and money on a movie I saw years ago?
The movie is not going to get any better by going blu.
Just another way to screw consumers out of money.
Most of the new movies aren't even good enough to be blu.......
Jon @ Oct 27th 2008 8:50AM
So you dont want to watch old movies on bluray and new movies are not good enough for bluray .. Humm ..
eric f. @ Oct 27th 2008 9:17AM
The Abyss
Nick @ Oct 27th 2008 12:42PM
Y-E-S!
squiggleslash @ Oct 27th 2008 1:58PM
Right now I'd be happy with The Abyss on anamorphic DVD. I'm completely baffled they'd put out a letterboxed version of such a visual movie.
Multi-format-mayhem @ Oct 27th 2008 9:29AM
Luckily, as a dual format owner, my choices take into account the extra almost 50% more available high def movies I had to choose from
(so I have already had for ages some of the Stanley Kubricks, Scorsese & Eastwood etc etc movies I'd otherwise have mentioned, and have been enjoying even more because they cost next to nothing).
We already got (well, I have it now) my number 1 - The Shawshank Redemption and one of my top 3, The Godfather (trilogy). Hooray!
Next, I'd dearly love to have Heat & look forward to Righteous Kill being one of the new releases they bring out shortly.
Once upon a Time in America has to be there soon, surely?
We're getting there with at least some of the Aliens series (if only the weaker later verses Predator stuff).
The Pianist would have been a pick of mine but then I have a dual player and got it (for next to nothing) on HD DVD.
Schindlers List is one I'm after and sticking with the WW2 theme.
Ditto Saving Private Ryan.
Brazil is a superb movie & if they managed a nice transfer I'd buy it.
Hotel Rwanda is another amazing movie I'd like to have in high def.
LOTR? I might. I already have them in SD DVD & the extended versions (which I've still not managed to watch yet).
Undoubtedly they'd want to flog these off at a huge premium so they'd be around some time awaiting a price-drop until I (maybe) bothered with them, again.
Loban @ Oct 27th 2008 10:24AM
I'll second Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings, but I already have the Back to the Future Trilogy and Alien (just the first one) in HD.
Mike @ Oct 27th 2008 11:12AM
Roger Rabbit
Lonestar @ Oct 27th 2008 11:24AM
Dances with wolves, Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars, LOTR, Boogie Nights ( to see Heather Graham naked in HD ), Star Trek: Wrath of Khan, Band of Brothers, Battle beyond the stars
LA26 @ Oct 27th 2008 11:38AM
No Aliens....No gone with the wind....no passion of the Christ..
Everything else gets a nod from me.
LOTR is a def. #1 though.....
Johnny Neat @ Oct 27th 2008 11:56AM
1. Citizen Kane

lee @ Oct 27th 2008 12:58PM
Titanic?, Jurassic Park? Maybe you guys ought to watch those movies again with a fresh perspective. They are both mediocre. Titanic is awful. Cheesy love story (poor guy falls for rich girl how original) and the ship is sinking and they are running around with guns, yea that is sooo realistic. As for JP other than the special effects you got nothing. Book was so much better but they had to make it a kid movie, don't waste your time on crap blu ray
Charles @ Oct 27th 2008 1:04PM
I heard they rendered out the dinosaurs and other special effects in 720p in Jurassic Park. The effects (although I love them and they still look impressive to me), may appear quite dated on Blu-ray.
ThatGuy @ Oct 27th 2008 1:10PM
Braveheart
SheepNutz @ Oct 27th 2008 5:46PM
I want Pulp Fiction!!!
Peter @ Oct 28th 2008 1:39PM
YES! Pulp Fiction please! The DVD I've got is the worst transfer of a film I've ever seen, come on, give us it on Blu.
Fight Club would be good too.
Anthony Pivac @ Oct 27th 2008 7:58PM
I would also like to see:
The Incredibles
Jaws
Legend
Louis Sansano @ Oct 28th 2008 4:57PM
Lord of The Rings , Star Wars, Indiana Jones, All the seasons of Battlestar Galactica
Justin @ Oct 28th 2008 10:40PM
Some of these may already be on BD
1. Bad Boys 1 & 2
2. U571 (the low end audio in the depth charg scene is rediculous)
3. Shawshank Redemption
4. Finding Nemo
5. Lion King
6. Footloose (long story why I put this one on here)
7. Original Star Wars
