Samsung partners with Netflix: P2500 and P2550 Blu-ray players updated for free

And so the Netflix partnerships roll on. Netflix just reached a deal to stream Internet movies and TV over a pair of Samsung Blu-ray players. The first Sammy players to go Netflix are the $400 BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 with "a range of home entertainment products" expected to follow suit. Good news for those of you who already own these players as the Netflix update is a free download through Samsung support (link below). Videos added to Netflix members' instant queues from a PC are automatically displayed on Samsung's players and available to watch instantly -- the players' remote control allows you to fast-forward and rewind video and browse and rate movies directly from the TV... exactly like LG's Netflix-enabled BD300. Come now, you didn't think Samsung would let hometown rival, LG, have all the fun did you?

I SO hope they update this functionality on the BD-UP5000. I don't even care if it ever gets 2.0 functionality, as its rumored that's out of the question. But being able to stream Netflix material would be an absolute joy! I would definitely become a Netflix subscriber then...(hear that Netflix, give me a hand here!)
It'll be interesting if they don't even update the BD-P1500. Do they intend to use this as a carrot to get people to buy their premium Blu-ray players? Wouldn't put it past them. Which probably means I'm chop liver.

That's awesome news! Thanks biz.

Bizket, you didn't ask about any other player than the P1500? Thanks for NOT saving me some time man. I would have enjoyed hearing a more generalized information affecting all of their Blu-ray players, not just the 2008 models. Somebody get some more info if you're going to contact Samsung.

Even by adding this feature, Samsung still wont get a purchase from me. To bad of a track record with providing updates to make me ever think they are a reliable company in regards to BD players.
