Panasonic's DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player falls to $259 -- are high prices behind us?
With Panasonic's Profile 2.0 DMP-BD55 Blu-ray player sliding in at $399 (and the BD35 at $299), Panny had to do something with that inflated sticker hanging on its DMP-BD30. When it originally launched back in October of last year, it was one of the fancier decks we'd seen -- evidenced by the $500 price tag. Today, said unit can be had for $259.99 (with free shipping to boot). We know, this is just the natural downward spiral of prices on aged units, but honestly, we think it's more than that. We think the time for lower BD player prices across the board is upon us, and we suspect that'll be magnified on the day after Thanksgiving. Call it a hunch (really, it's a hunch), but we reckon $300 for a Blu-ray player will seem outrageous by Q1 of 2009.

$259 isn't a high price???? Since when?

Well, this is a really nice player.

It isn't a high price. DVD players this time in their life were no different. Besides, quality brand name players put pressure on the no-names to go even cheaper and so the cycle repeats. There will be $200 players this Christmas, and probably players down to $125 next year.

Black Friday will be a great time to buy a Profile 1.1 player for under $200. I just hope that for the people that are buying their first player understand those players do NOT support BD-Live.
Any bets on sales being lower this holiday season?

Dude, these holidays will sunk so low, that it will not be funny. have you been paying attention what is happening with the economic of this country lately?, we are fuKR#@@ plain and simple. Right now they can drop this player to 150 and still will not sale a lot of inventories. Things are so bad, that even sonystyle.com sent me a 15% off coupon, and every major retail company from clothing stores to electronic stores such as best buy are junking my mail box with promotional coupons, because they are not selling nothing nada. Consumer confidence is at all time low .

Lower prices are a no brainer this holiday season. It's a sign of the times...as this will be a very dismal shopping season across the board. I'll be shocked if all of the entry players for the various brands aren't below $200 before Black Friday (no, not today Black Friday).
The like of us will no doubt go into debt scooping up all of the 'bargains' though ;)

How so? Banks don't have money to lend out, so where will this debt source come from?

$200.00 is not the sweet spot for most people. $100-150.00 maybe. I have a PS 3, had since day one, but I would never pay $200.00 for essentially an upgraded dvd player (most people think this way). I am an audio and video buff, but the most I would pay is $150.00. For an average bear that don't undertand HDTV technology or even or Digital TV transition, what is bluray for them. Blu HA. This is why $100.00 is the best price.

Not to be mean or anything... But
If you are an audio buff why do you have a PS3?
The PS3 doesn't support Bitstream audio only PCM last time I checked.
If you've got a sweet Receiver it's not really doing the decoding the PS3 is.
Hence why the 35 is the best deal considering it does Bitstream & PCM on both TrueHD & DTS-MA.
