Sony Pictures Home Entertainment -- you've apparently been doing quite well in the Blu-ray department this year. The folks over at
Sound & Vision recently took a hard look at a number of BD-releasing studios this year in order to give 'em all the grade they deserve. As for criteria? Critics looked at the "technical prowess of the audio and video presentations, the adoption or avoidance of available Blu-ray exclusive technologies (
BD-Live, etc.) and the breadth and diversity of their releases as well as their reaction to the unique challenges of the latest evolution of the BD market." Interested to see how the rest of the competition fared? Give the read link a look for all the dirt.

Props to Paramount/Dreamworks & Universal for getting a B+, and I'm not surprised one bit.
If you haven't taken U-Control for a test drive on blu, do so. Universal did an outstanding job of porting all of their HDi templates over to BD-J.

I've liked Warner's output so far. They wouldn't win any prizes for supplemental content but the features have been pretty good quality. The quality is pretty cinematic with no DNR or EE in the content I've gotten so far. I'm most peeved by Fox and MGM for ruining several war movies I was looking forward to owning.

I would hope SONY of all studios would get their movies on BD right, so kudos to that.
I hope they keep up this unofficial "grading" of release quality by studios. Hopefully, it keeps them honest, and consumers informed about BD titles and their transfer quality (which to me is all that matters)

Why can't the studios also be judged on pricing.
if that would be the case, FOX, MGM and Sony would be bottom of the pack instead of receiving high marks.

They are. It's called total sales. If they keep their prices high, no one buys the movies.

I am not surprised. I have Casino Royale and Into the Blue and I am blown away by the transfers. They are flawless. Sony and Fox are great. I also have I Robot (Fox), Kongdom of Heaven (Fox), flawless. On the other hand, other movies, Blood Diamond, Babel, MI 2, MI 3 are full of noise, grain and color is not uniform troughout the movies. Anyway, Sony, thank you for keeping your products on the bleeding edge of technology.
