DVDPlay bucks the trend, actually drops prices of movie rentals
Good news, DVDPlay addicts. That little movie kiosk that you can't seem to ever avoid as you exit your local food mart is about to become less of a drain on your wallet. Reportedly, the company has decided to lower its per-movie rental fee from $1.49 to $1.00, with president Charlie Piper stating that in "an economy of rising prices, our customers are looking for value for their entertainment dollars." The price change went into effect on October 1st, and it seems that Blu-ray rentals will also be ratcheted down to a buck. Not bad, if we should say so ourselves.

I've never seen any DVDPlay kiosks, but RedBox has always been a dollar. But RedBox doesn't have blu-ray rentals.

Check some of the other Red Boxes near you. I've found that most have at least Spider-man 3 and Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End. Okay so it's not much, but it's a start.

Red Box has been a buck plus tax for as long as I have been using it. Even their Blu-Ray rentals are a buck. Too bad Spider-man 3 is only Blu-Ray in my local Red Box. So DVDplay is just playing catch-up in my books.
The negative for Red Box is the loss of locations. Both Walgreens near my house have removed their Red Boxes. The only location left near-by is inside a Grocery store which isn't 7/24.

Most McDonalds have a redbox and a lot of those are 24/7

We really like DVDPlay. It's just up the street at the local Safeway and we almost always stop and check for new titles after picking up groceries. I'll take the price drop - don't care why they're doing it.
I need to go back and check if there's any Blu-Ray in ours. My wife usually picks up the DVDPlay flix and wouldn't notice.
We also have a 2-out Netflix - mainly for Blu, and with the release of the latest PlayOn and Netflix streaming finally working (after an email to their support for a new .dll) - I'm regretting dropping out internet speed to 1.5Mbps to save a few dollars.
