Billed as a one-day summit for Blu-ray developers, marketers and producers, Blu-con 1.0 will feature "experts" (whether that includes the many people who have so thoughtfully and eloquently shared their opinions in our comments since the start of the format war we have not been able to determine) discussing the various issues and opportunities presented by the format. The $325 ticket price for the December 8 event shouldn't be much of an issue, the conference is only open to DEG members, sponsors and invited guests, we'll wait and see if anyone comes out of it with the secret to lower priced Blu-ray players or more interesting uses for
BD-Live.

Since it is 1.0, will they be able to talk about BD-Live and other 1.1+ features?

Ummm.....the secret to lower priced players is higher demand. The demand just isn't there. I don't see demand being very high at all in the general public. It may be there someday when more TELEVISION is shot and delivered in HD and more people have real HD set-ups in their homes but right now it's not there. I just went Blu on the LCD and love it. Already did the whole HD-DVD thing and it's still very useful based on the titles and amount of titles I purchased during the fire sale. I record clear-qam whenever possible and sometimes I even purchase HD content from XBOX Live. The cost to get where I am today is not something most people can comprehend or deal with and it has to do with a lot more than the $199 I spent on the recent Blu player purchase. Surround sound, HDMI cables, coax cable, XBOX 360, XBOX 360 HD drive, the LCD TV and the movies themselves all add up very quickly...Q

I hope someone beats them over the head with how unacceptable the current state of PC software and playback is.

Thank you for your comments and I will personally read all posts concerning Blu-Con 1.0.
The idea behind the event is to drive the BD format through innovation so please let me be a conduit for your questions, comments and concerns! This is a B2B conference to bring together the producers, manufacturers and distributors of Blu-ray Disc and to bring the developers who are working on killer apps for BD-Live in front of the decision makers at the Hollywood studios. Addition topics include Blu-ray for Music, Blu-ray Hardware and Digital Copy...this event is also the only event entirely dedicated to Blu-ray and is positioning itself as the premier BD event for the home entertainment industry.

We will cover BD-Live, definitely. The 1.0 is simply to describe it as the inagural event. Also, the BDA is moving away from profile numbering (1.1 is called "Bonus View and 2.0 is "BD-Live"). This effort will allow the consumer to easily know the difference in disc/player capabilities.
