Did you cheap out on a TV stand? It probably just got recalled.
Let's be honest -- after sinking a few large on a new HDTV, a few hundies on some overpriced cables and even more on HD programming, you weren't about to cough up another month's paycheck for a decent TV stand. For the 48,600 customers out there who purchased one of four different King Pao Enterprise TV Stands (likely sold and distributed by Studio RTA), you now have a product known for tipping over and ruining lives. The E Series, Fierro, Madison DLP and Madison 3000 -- all of which were sold at Best Buy and other big box retailers from May 2004 to August 2008 -- have been deemed unstable and unfit for use in your living room, and it's suggested that you cautiously remove your set and wait for a "repair kit" before it does the removing for you. Godspeed.

Great. Let's see how BB treats the victims of a ruined flatscreen that bought these POS stands from their stores. THis could be a PR mess for them if there aren't careful.

I cheaped out and got a stand from Ikea - $70, iirc. It's nice and sturdy, though, which is good considering my TV weighs about 200lbs.

I never understood this, you spend $2,000 to $7,000 on a television, and then go el cheap-o on the stand? That's like buying a Lamborghini, and then getting auto coverage from Frank's Steamed Clams and Auto Insurance. The problem I have had is that most retailers don't realize the home theater community. Look at the media center stands available. Some look really nice, but aren't usable because they aren't deep enough for a receiver, and offer no place to put a center channel speaker.

It's like getting that Pioneer Elite and not getting the $100 power cord. Oh, wait.... some things are just low tech no matter what you do. Stands may be one of these. You can make an unsafe high-price stand, too....

I did that I bought a $2500 TV but a cheap glass stand. Now I regret it I ran out of space to hold my equipment and in the end it was bad choice

Frank has excellent steamed clams though, his marketing savvy and above average fast food preparation skills are a strong record on which to build a successful insurance company. And, his shop's been around 30 years, and the federal reserve has never once indicated that it might have to bail him out.

Best Buy only sold the Fierro

I used to be a Home Theater Supervisor at Best Buy, we sold a LOT more Studio RTA stuff than just that....

Yes Best Buy sells a lot more RTA stuff and has in the past, but only one on the list was sold by Best Buy. The story called out Best Buy as if they sold all the models in question.

I went to Goodwill and bought some very nice matching dark wood end tables for $10 each. Got home, pushed them together and started setting everything up. Works perfect and looks good :)

I guess its a good thing to be handy. I built my own custom entertainment center out of oak and stained it golden oak. It cost alot more to build than it would have to buy a standard entertainment center, but the quality doesn't even come close. Plus, I can say no one in the world has an entertainment center like mine.

I posted the pics on Blu-ray.com almost a year ago when I finished it. I now have a 50" Panasonic 1080p Plasma instead of that 46" Sharp. Huge upgrade in picture quality IMO. I also moved the ps3 to the bottom left center shelf. I'm also looking to upgrade my receiver to an Onkyo 606. Hopefully it will be a christmas gift from the wife.
