Not exactly a full review...

So I've got my PC running 1920x1080. Do I need to switch it to 1280x720 in order to use this? Or use some kind of multiple monitor setup where the VGA output is a different desktop, or what?

What if I don't have a VGA output on my video card. Probably came with a VGA adapter for the DVI output, but these might be proprietary, and I'm not sure if I can buy another one.

What was the lag like? You say it was a negative but don't describe the experience at all.

I guess this puts the whole screen on your display right? No way to adjust the part you're looking at, i.e. zoom in on just the video? How was it navigating things like Hulu from 10' away, probably not something they thought about a lot... Do they have plans for "zoom/pan" type features (a la SlingPlayer) in the future?

How does the audio get hooked up? I guess its via USB. Any issues with this, i.e. if you leave it hooked up all the time, and mostly just want your normal audio running to your speakers? I assume I might just hear the audio blasting from the other room... any way to mute just the local speakers when using this?

Since they did the audio via USB, why not the video? Why do they need the VGA output?

Fanfoot

Comments on ZeeVee ZvBox review

FanFoot,
Not the most comprehensive online, but still hit all the highs and lows, as for your questions.

Yes, you have to switch to 1280x720, down the road 1920x1080 will work too. You should be able to use a mutl-monitor setup, but I didn't try it.

You'll have to use a VGA adapter.

It is about a half a second, not noticeable when using the play/pause/fwd etc, but it was when you were mousing around.

Yes there is an overscan adjustment, but I didn't use it because I use the 1:1 pixel mapping mode of my TV instead.

>How was it navigating things like Hulu from 10' away, probably not something they thought about a lot... Do they have plans for "zoom/pan" type features (a la SlingPlayer) in the future?

It was pretty good, but not great, once you broke out of their software to the website things got worse. Their software was great, the way it lets you add your own content and other applications. It also ties into the apps so you can still use pause play etc, when using the web apps.

>How does the audio get hooked up? I guess its via USB. The audio only comes out of the TV when you have the Zv channel tuned in. Yes you can mute the PC's speakers, they show up as a separate audio device -- if I recall. I was using the toslink out of my TV and teh PCM audio sounded great, but hopefully 5.1 is working sooner rather than later.

>Since they did the audio via USB, why not the video? Why do they need the VGA output?
Not sure, but that is a great question, especially with the price of USB VGA adapters coming down so much.

Ben

Comments on ZeeVee ZvBox review

Finally, another review that doesn't blast the thing.

I have one and I kind of like it!
