Netflix inks deals with ABC / CBS, current TV shows streaming soon
Whoa boy -- the Netflix wagon just keeps picking up steam. Announced today, the movie rental service has landed separate agreements with both CBS and ABC that will allow a swath of current TV shows to be streamed at Netflix. Starting next month, subscribers can indulge in current season episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and beginning this week, current season episodes of CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. Over on the ABC / Disney side, you can expect to find streams of Hannah Montana, The Suite Life on Deck, and Wizards of Waverly Place, two of which can be seen just 24 hours after they air on television. Users will also find heaps of catalog episodes to enjoy at their leisure, and we have all ideas the quantity of available content will grow as time passes. Now, if only we had an ETA on HD streaming...

I really don't get the excitement over these streaming services. The episodes are chock full of commercials you can't FF through so what's the point?

thats why netflix is a big deal.... there are no commercials since its a "pay" service and you can ff/rw on the roku and xbox360/lg bluray player this fall. you can sorta ff/rw on the pc but its not a true ff/rw. just pick the time in the show you want to go to.
that said i REALLY hope netflix is securing these deals with hd support included.... I would hate it if they finally do go HD and have to redo all these contracts.

You can watch Netflix on your Xbox, PS3, and Popcorn Hour right now. Google "playon" and search "real ht info" at metacafe or youtube to see it in action on a popcorn hour.

The commercials are a bummer, but its better then not seeing the show. This fall Thursday at 8 (9 for you left/right coasters) has four shows that I want to watch. I can record two on the DVR, watch one OTA but that leaves one out. If I could watch it streamed via a Netflix Roku box that would be perfect.

If they can (a) support HD and (b) just put some storage in the player so you can buffer shows ahead of time, and therefore watch them in HD even if you're on a normal DSL connection, I'll be all over what Netflix is doing.

To answer someone on another thread (the HTPC voting thread), this is why someone would build an HTPC. Get all of your content, both streaming online, locally networked, and on optical disc, all in one box. And throw in some MAME gaming for good measure.

Up to now, I have not found any of these streaming services that supports Closed Captioning. If this does not, then it is a worthless as the rest. Yes, I hear fine. I just like to pick up all the dialog that ones misses during non-CC playback.

I noticed Hulu has CC on some of their content.
