Yes, with the economy in the doldrums and teetering on the brink of total collapse, and with a current adoption rate of about 10% for HDTVs capable of displaying any difference at all between DVD and Blu-ray, Blu-ray sales are about to go through the roof as soon as some sub-$200 players come out.
People are just itching to buy all their movies again on a new format - paying more now than they did then - in order to get an improvement in quality that around 50% of the population consider barely noticeable, and aren't at all concerned that more convenient options such as downloads and the first viable VOD services aren't going to render that BD player a dust magnet within a couple of years.
Yep. Blu-ray's gonna take off. Vrooom! Whoooooooooooooooosh! That's it taking off right there baby! It's not too little, too late, for too much, at all!

Blu-ray will be around for awhile, as for downloads this seems to be a reoccurring argument enough of it already. We all know that one day that will be the way to do things but not while ISP’s are limiting your bandwidth. And don’t forget all the DRM that they want in downloads to keep people from pirating or sharing like wanting to watch it at a friend’s place without purchasing it again. I see physical media as the standard for at least ten more years, and even after downloads overtake physical media it will still be many more years before physical media is gone, just look at CD’s everyone said that they were worthless once everyone started to download MP3’s, well CD’s are still here even with sales being down.
