Sky Cable Philippines delivers nation's first HD broadcast with Ryder Cup
Initially, we wondered why Sky Cable Philippines would choose the Ryder Cup as the nation's first HD broadcast, but then we remembered that there's really no better way to show off the benefits of high-def than to showcase a sporting event. Reportedly the cable carrier will be delivering the four day event (September 19th through 22nd) in magnificent high-definition to those who take the plunge on an HD set-top-box. Too bad that box costs a stiff $42, but hopefully this is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship.[Thanks, Marco]

I just got the HD box a few days ago. I was excited that there will be HD in the philippines. My HDTV is starting to get used to the grainy SD channels. :-) I have some negative comments about the HD box. Number 1, the remote is so and unresponsive, not to mention you have to REALLY point it on the box. 2 the cost, hopefully if they ever start adding HD channels, it will just be a free thing, (an added bonus for the Platinum Pack) like how they do it in the US and Japan. But knowing how Filipinos are, they will take advantage of the HD hungry rich people and charge 1,000 Pesos or 24 US Dollars per frickin' channel! That would be just ridiculous.
I would love to have National Geographic HD, CNN HD, Discovery HD, ESPN HD, HBO HD, and more! Surprise me SkyCable! (Not with a suicidal bill...;-)

There are reports that SkyCable will be mobilizing their HD broadcasts before year-end. From what I've gathered, HBO HD will be included in the lineup. If the lineup will only include HBO HD, I'm not sure. Let's hope they work on other channels and don't charge too much for it.
