Net Insight holds live 3D telepresence demonstration, shows it on video
While this wasn't the only live 3D broadcast going on at IBC2008, we couldn't resist passing along a video of this one in action. Net Insight was at the show demonstrating a live 3D telepresence setup using a 1.5Gbps connection. From Stockholm (the show floor is in Amsterdam), a company employee was able to wave and communicate in real-time in stunning 3D. The kicker? No funky goggles were required to see him, and while you needed to stand pretty much directly in front of the display in order to get the full effect, we can't help but be wowed at what went on here. Seriously, check out the video in the read link and imagine watching a movie in this manner in your own home. It's good stuff, we promise.

So its ...not? fake 3-d his time? Like a semi-3d image on a 2nd background such as most recently done b those telemarketting guys from ...Australia?

Ah no, just checked the video. Its still an image on a 2nd display screen.
Nothing more than a projector being used via a semi-transparent projection screen. They've done this trick in Australia etc.
It will really be 3d when the image can be seen from the side, front, back, etc and you can walk through it.
This is just 2d on a semi-transparent projection screen material. The 1.5Gbps/sec is probably for a very high-def poorly compressed or uncompressedstream.

It's still a nice start... who knew stuff like this would be a reality so soon? I imagine the moon will soon crash into the earth and 2 new races will emerge. Before you low rank this, go watch the newest Time Machine movie to see what the heck im talking about. I thought the technology for Orlando Jones' display wouldn't exist but we're getting close.

The high speed of communication 1.5 Gbps and no compression is only because no other network company can achieve the same. It's a *LARGE* distance down to other companies like Cisco. They can at most achieve live "compressed" HD on a stage in a limited time and place.
Net Insight has a solution which other network companies only can envy.

Was it me or was this really lame?
