Furutech unveils $1,800 Powerflux power cable -- yes, seriously
This ain't the first time Furutech has cranked out a cable beyond the realm of feasibility, and sadly we doubt it'll be the last. What you're looking at above is undoubtedly the sexiest, most desirable power cable this world has ever seen. Unfortunately, that bad boy isn't getting shipped to you unless you funnel $1,800 out of your bank account and into Furutech's. The brand new Piezo Powerflux Power Cord features the FI-50 Piezo Ceramic Series Power Connectors, which are "made of layers of carbon fiber in a damping and insulating acetal copolymer surrounded by nonmagnetic stainless steel." Look, we won't deny that any power being transferred out of this thing will be unfathomably clean, but $1,800 clean? Nah, son.

Its nothing more than jewelery. If I was filthy rich, I'd buy a few.
Brad @ Sep 16th 2008 8:39PM
Hmmm... wonder how clean is your power on the other side of that wall outlet?
NorthCranky @ Sep 16th 2008 9:18PM
He said if he was filthy rich... and he'd have that cleaned too and probably his own power station. You can buy them you know. And then a death star.
Randy @ Sep 16th 2008 8:50PM
I'm reminded of the double-blind test involving speaker wire and coat hangers. and the audiophiles couldn't tell which was which. I doubt that the people who buy these cables will be able to tell the difference. Hell, not even the equipment they intend to power will be able to tell the difference.
TRT @ Sep 16th 2008 8:53PM
$ 1,800.00 for a power cord. OK. I can plug it into my...into my...into my...Wait! I forgot my wallet. I'll be right back!
Jimmy @ Sep 16th 2008 8:55PM
I once asked a hifi dealer if I also needed to replace the wires in the wall or if his cable would do everything... priceless ;)

ME: I gotz carbon fiber... What you got son?
YOU: $1,800
jitty @ Sep 16th 2008 11:15PM
For $1800 those power cables better be made of a room temperature super conductor =\
kcmurphy88 @ Sep 16th 2008 11:34PM
Of course to get the full (if non-existent) benefit of this wonder cable, you need a $4000 power conditioner. Otherwise you have the entire electric company messing with your "pristine power."
badbob001 @ Sep 17th 2008 12:19AM
The power would be even more clean if it came from a UPS instead. Wait, it's that the $10,000 add-on with the cables?
dj496 @ Sep 17th 2008 2:32AM
This should be illegal.
Xyzzy @ Sep 17th 2008 9:49AM
"This should be illegal"
PT Barnum and Bailey would disagree.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA
Woody @ Sep 17th 2008 10:02AM
Douchebags rejoice! Any fag thinking about buying one of these should instead buy a normal power cable and donating the other $1,790 to charity.
DEEZNUTZ @ Sep 17th 2008 10:07AM
You still overpaid at $10...
bobtheHDbuilder @ Sep 17th 2008 10:43AM
I love how all of you instantly scoff at the idea. If you have an expensive dedicated theater, that was constructed with highest quality as the goal, this makes sense. You'd already have a regulated, and cleaned power source coming in, and you definitely wouldn't be using the same power cord you can get from walmart to plug your compontents in. Personally, I don't think I'd ever even think about buying this, but it has it's place.
Franssu @ Sep 17th 2008 11:14AM
No sir, it hasn't. Any decent sized power cord from Home Depot will transport the pristine power from the most expensive power source. And then, this power will be cleaned again by the gigantic capacitors in the power input stage and adapter of the super expensive gear...
One of my friends bought a nice Monster Power clean power source. It definitely cleaned the image on his crappy Sony CRT, but did nothing at all for the sound of his super expensive power amplifier. The power input stage was so good, it already cleaned the crappy power that came out of the wall...
Just go to any high-end pro studio, and see if they use platinum power cables or diamond plated audio interconnects. They don't.
DEEZNUTZ @ Sep 17th 2008 11:28AM
How does paying $1800 for a power cable make sense? The only place this cable has is in the home of the poor douchebag fool who fell for the snake oil salesman peddling these overpriced cables. I don't care how high end the system is, I can guarantee there will be no measurable difference between these cables and the ones that come with the devices. None.

A fool and his money are soon parted.
Money Mike @ Sep 17th 2008 3:49PM
I can't believe nobody has pointed out the obvious reason someone would need to buy this. If you suddenly find yourself stuck in a real-life version of Brewster's Millions, you can buy a bunch of these and then sell them off at $10 a pop.
Zuke @ Sep 22nd 2008 12:42PM
Beautiful cable, but GIGO. If there's no line conditioners to control spikes, brownouts, etc. then you're just moving along electricity that is only as good and variable as the wall socket.
