Verizon's FiOS TV makes its western New York debut

Western New York, FiOS. FiOS, western New York. That's right -- not even two full months after Verizon's FiOS TV took New York City by storm, the service has officially gone live in the western park of the state. We've known this was coming for quite some time, but it feels oh-so-good to know that some 60,000 households in the greater Buffalo area can now phone up Verizon and order up its fiber-based TV programming, high-speed internet and digital phone services. Among the first communities to get served are parts of Amherst, Hamburg, Orchard Park and Tonawanda; expect additional communities in the region to get gifted "within the next few weeks." Any western New Yorkers mulling the switch?

And now the people of western NY can also experience the torture that is dealing with the Verizon Fios billing department.

It would be nice if upstate (albany, ny) would get it at some-point, but i think we all know that wont be for many years

i hope i can get fios soon. dsl sucks, so does time warner, so i'm limited in options at the moment.

This is nice, although Albany and other areas upstate are years ahead of us when it comes to service form Time Warner. Looks like Fios may be an option

If you live in Rochester NY, don't get excited, Frontier (Citizens) has the local monopoly. So no FIOS for us until they go under.

i believe that fios circumvents the cable monopolies . .
so you might be in luck . .

im in brooklyn and they told me we should have it in my area by the end of the year . .
cant wait to get rid of time warner . .

Frontier is the telecom monopoly up here. Was formerly Rochester Telephone. Verizon has no presence, and Frontier prides themselves on staying woefully behind the times, or so it seems.
