Who was on the main channel (.1). The sub-channel wasn't seen (more than likely) on analog cable, satellite and fiber optic. Maybe not even on cable.
Seems like a limited audience for the sub-channel of OTA with digital tuners and maybe cable.
My local CBS station did this with the US Open a few years ago. Ran daytime trash on the main channel and an HD feed of the first two rounds of the US Open on the sub-channel. I asked some of my friends who like golf if they caught it and they didn't even know what a sub-channel was, much less that it existed on our CBS affiliate.
Obama was on 7.1... McCain was on 7.2... Both flipped back and forth on analog 7...
The 7.2 is typically a weather channel and it is available on the lowest basic cable service in almost every area in the Miami Valley so basically everyone has access to it.
