Blu-ray releases on September 9th, 2008
As we push closer and closer to the one thousand title mark for Blu-ray, during this season of TV shows, catalogs, and B+ movies, we get more and more excited for what's to come. But for now we'll have to appreciate what we have, and we only wish we though Baby Mama looked funny. That's not to say there isn't at least one good title in this week's slate of eighteen, just nothing new. For example, who doesn't like Kill Bill, Cool Hand Luke, or Jerry Maguire? And that's not to mention one of the most inspirational sports movies of all time, Rudy. If none of these interest you, just wait until next week, which has a pretty impressive lineup to offer. Personally we're looking forward to a few of 'em like Leatherheads, The Love Guru and the very first two Weinstein Blu-ray movies ever.Blu-ray

Don't knock Baby Mama to hard, it's actually pretty funny. And they won't tell you a lot in the trailer, but Steve Martin is also in it.

wow almost a 1000 titles and still only a few dozen that actually deserved hd treatment... (same went for hd-dvd releases as well)

The big release this week for classic fans is HOW THE WEST WAS WON, restored from Cinerama and the dividing lines (of Cinerama) removed and a completely remastered soundtrack. For classic fans, who have had little to choose from in pre-1970 material, this is a huge release.

@Big Wizz:
Not just Disney, but The Wonderful World of Disney!

Are you guys really complaining when How the West Was Won, Kill Bill(127 and 191) are on the list, and Cool Hand Luke(119)? In parenthesis are where these titles are ranked on IMDB.

Blu-ray??? Does anyone even care about blu-ray?
mntwister @ Sep 9th 2008 2:39PM

Nightwatch and Daywatch are fantastic movies and I'll pick them up on Blu at some point... on sale. It's too bad Fox is distributing them and gouging us on pricing.
Forbidden Kingdom is a consideration for the PQ alone. I didn't care too much for the movie but my wife really enjoyed it.

blu-ray is the best format ever in the history of home video. can't wait to pickup Smallville S7!!!!
Gus @ Sep 9th 2008 6:59PM
I don't get it, if they are serious about growing this format, why do they continually release such uninspiring dross?
electric @ Sep 9th 2008 10:04PM
Cool Hand Luke is "uninspiring dross?" Are you looking for any reason to bash Blu Ray, or do you just have lousy taste in movies?
Gus @ Sep 10th 2008 11:02PM
Cool Hand Luke may be a gold old movie, but HD worthy it's not IMO, along with most movies released on blu or HD DVD.
IMO opinion unless a movie is visually exciting and has a pumping soundtrack, why bother with it in HD.
