Mitsubishi's 65-inch LaserVue priced at CEDIA: $6,999

Mitsubishi has been trickling out details for its mysterious LaserVue HDTV for months now, but at long last, we finally know the most pertinent piece. Reportedly, the 65-inch set -- which was seen lookin' mighty fine on the CEDIA floor, by the way -- will retail for $6,999 when it ships to Select Diamond retailers at the end of this month. The forthcoming 73-inch version doesn't have a price / release date just yet, but given the way we've found things out about its smaller sibling, we can't say we're shocked in the least.

Same price as a 65" Sharp LCD, 65" Panasonic plasma, or a 80-120"+ front projector setup.

They had to go and get greedy... I've been saving for 2 years for the Laservue. This confirmed price has put the nail in my Laser TV coffin... Laservue is much cheaper to produce but even so I was bracing myself for a 5000 price tag but 7000 is simply too much.. Sorry Mitsubishi, you've just lost my 5 grand... A Samsung 72" will be in my living room before Christmas... WITH a few extra bulbs to boot.

They're quoting MSRP and who ever pays MSRP? You'll see these for $5000 or even less come holiday.

Yeah its very very ... high. However as all things go in the TV world, the prices will drop. I was not really expecting to get one right now anyhow. I'll wait for a generation 2 (maybe thinner) But also prices will come down by then I'm sure. But I have been waiting for 3 + years.

wow, no wonder Mitsubishi has waited to release this Projection tv. it is way over priced on top of it!
my bet is the reason why they introduced recently other DLP sets, and more is that there is limited production of the laser that powers the set.
Personally, such a high price is ridiculous for a projection set. Mitsubishi is not really going to make a dent in the market with this pricing. people will probably go flat panel.
What the hell happened to Mitsubishi's pricing? in the advance releases they stated these tv's would be at the same type of pricing as the current/prior Projection tv's. this is almost 2x that pricing. so, bs.
i think i will just wait or get a different make. mitsubishi just lost a sale, i was waiting for the 73" laser vue projection tv.
now. maybe ill go flat panel. screw misubishi

Unbelievable. I currently have a WS-65" 2nd Gen and the 73" was going to replace it.
Screw that. Seems like i'm going to hold off a little while longer. While this tech is the next greatest thing it's still 1st gen and something is most likely to come up.
I have been a 1st adopter in many things and I have seen myself and others get burned for doing so. Especially with the Mitsus.
Yes the sets were excellent but they had left us hanging dry with their launch HD-STB then 5 years later when the Module came out. You know what Mitsu.....We remember.

Mits TV = Junk (google daughterboard and Mits)
Rear projection = problems with viewing angles and registration (and bulbs when not talking about this particular TV)
MSRP of 7K....forget it. I would get the 5781F and save 2K

Why are you both mentioning "bulbs" when talking about RPTVs? Only a sucker would buy a model that wasn't based on the LED light source.
My Sammy 61" LED DLP will last me for the next 10-15yrs EASY.

I only mention bulbs because if I went with the 72" Sammy I would have to buy bulbs. I've actually had my heart set on the Laservue all along. If what DEEZNUTZ said is true and these are only suggested retail prices and the sets do actually come down to 5 grand by Christmas then I will probably keep saving for the 73" Laservue... I just wish they would go ahead and release the prices of the 73" as well. I mean, it’s not like they don't know already...

You guys are dreaming if you think the Laservue will go for less than retail. First, these will be sold at the non-discount retailers, like all Diamond machines. Second the life-span is based on solid state lasers which will last longer than any other TV tech. Third, the price will be for a projection TV that erases all limitations of previous prj sets, with a 160 deg viewing angle enable by a laser light source which can emit more light per sq inch, permitting a better dispersing screen. This will be the best TV on the market until 09, when Sony produces the first nanotube monitor for the TV studios which is the only set that meets the toughest spec ever written. Next will be the version for the home, and then Laservue buyers will choke, unless 7K isn't a big deal. Nanotube TVs will be the least expensive tech in 2 years. However, plasma and nanotubes relie on phosphors which will never produce the color spectrum of lasers. Next up, the Laservue which turns the viwing room into a tanning parlor:)
