Pioneer didn't bring a whole lot of firepower to this year's CEDIA (though it did toss in
16 new speaker models), but the star of its show was definitely the über-expensive
Elite BDP-09FD Blu-ray player. Thankfully, the company had a couple of units setup for photographing, one of which was dissected within a glass case. Needless to say, we snapped images from each, giving you a rare look at what makes this thing worth $2,199. As with most of its Elite components (HDTVs notwithstanding), this unit was also on the chunky side, but it's still a beauty in our eyes. The gallery awaits your attention.

Why do so many Blu-ray players look like some kind of satanic robot from a low-budget SciFi horror movie?

Hello and good day to all AV enthusiasts,
1) There are those who will purchase a PSP-3, for reasons that they have the combination of a great games console and a Blu-Ray player in one unit.
This reason is valid and important, and not just because the price is acceptable (different reason for different people.)
2) Then there are those who will purchase a separate Blu-Ray player from the likes of Panasonic, which are up there in terms of offering
full features at a reasonable price point (they have been amongst the best at cutting prices in order to attract the early adopter.
3) The next batch of individuals for a number of reasons weather financial, family priorities, job situation, ect, ect as the reasons are numeruos
indeed, and totally understood by myself ( and I really mean this friends.)
They are quite happy with DVD or upconverted DVD's and that's totally fine and understood.
4) Then there are those who like all things slim and are fasion conscious and like thing that way and that's toally fine,
as the market caters for all individuals with different products.
5) Then comes those that are sitting on the fence at the moment, because of one thing or another, or that they are fed up with the changing formats.
This again is well and truly understood and acceptable.
6) The next individuals are those who do not appreciate? or fully understand? and at times? do not do their home work?
They will criticise others? do not like equipment as it looks bulky, ugly? and would or could never justify the high price of a product which extreamly
well made and so on? they will also speak badly of others for spending a great deal of their hard earned money on such products.
This to is fully and sincerely understood friends.
7) The final individuals are those from various backgrounds, and with various incomes, most with a healthy respectful, view of life
who will enjoy the AV hobby and all of it's improvements along the way.
They will wait patiently for the various formats to mature and while waiting! will enjoy watching films, enjoy making sensible upgrades
and improvements.
They will check all forums, read many articles, gain much knowledge about products and see if the studios accross the board, are supporting
this format.
These individuals will work hard in their daily lives, keep themselves to themselves, and will appreciate the manufacturers who are willing to
build and design hardware, that will last and to be ahead of the game with features (personal pride of ownership here guys.)
Some people like myself will purchase this great Pioneer ELITE product because they have a reputation for quality and refinement, of which they take
very seriously indeed.
I will pay this high sum of money for this player ( and this would take a few months to save for, but with joy.)
Poineer's Reference THX DVD player was also released in the late 1997 aprox called the DV-09, this player held it's own for many years and is still
Respected to this day by those who know their product.
The bottom line to all of this is simple! if you want quality then you will pay for it and most of us are not rich or wealthy.
Enjoy reading all of the messages here and shall look forward to hearing from others about this product or AV subject.
Genuine and honest regards to all
Mark
