Verizon vs tru2way, and the hits roll on
All this back and forth banter between the cable industry and Verizon is quite entertaining. While ultimately we agree with Verizon that there has to be a better solution than tru2way, we're not buying "it's not compatible with our network" jazz. As pointed out by a podcast listener (thanks Derek) -- the real reason why Verizon isn't down with tru2way, is because it would make all of VZ's new software useless. Either way, in the latest chapter Verizon calls out the NCTA's redicluos "it'll still work with a STB" argument, by pointing out the obvious; which is that the whole point of a system like tru2way, is to eliminate the STB. Although there is nothing new about us saying that we want to choose the software, as well as the hardware, we just hope that if we say it enough times, maybe the FCC will actually stand up and listen.

Verizon's software is far superior anyway. Come on, Multi-Room DVR, Connectivity to your PC, Widgets, games, graphically rich guide. Light years ahead of anything a big op like Comcast has. They just need to include high resolution support for 16:9 HDTV's. Heck, all providers need to include that in their next guide version.

Right on Ben!!
Simple software written by two year olds would give the lord all mighty middlemen content providers all the security they need for programming access.
But noooo! The All Mighty Telcos/CableOps with powerful lobby groups continue gouging consumers with needless box rental fees!!!

Always cracks me up to see people on tech blogs act like they know something about, well something they know nothing about.
The CEA has for DECADES, not months, not years, DECADES railed against any kind of interface standard with the cable industry. It took the FCC to get them to talk to the cable co's and finally agree to SOMETHING.
So, you all cried about your Bittorrent, and look what it's gotten you? Caps.
Now you're going to cry about this and guess what you're going to get? Another 20 years of TVs that require a separate box from whatever provider you decide to use.
Just shut up and go away will you mr know's it alls?

Well, as far as Verizon is concerned they couldn't care less about tru2way. As per FCC requirement they have to support separable security which they'll do with QIP-7xxx series set-tops. Separable security mandate does not say anything about OCAP.
