DXG-595V HD camcorder does 1080p for 200 bones
We've seriously stopped trying to understand what differentiates one DXG camcorder from the next. Every release reads something like "blah, blah, 1080p," followed by a price that's simply too good to be true. The DXG-595V claims to capture 1080p (imagine that!) video onto your SDHC card for a mere $200, and the ability to snag stills / connect to your SDTV via composite or S-Video is thrown in for free. Thanks, DXG -- can't wait for you to slap a new model number on some leftover inventory and treat us again next month.

I take it the quality of this unit is expected to be complete garbage?

I'm offended by the press release's suggestion that they can get 8 hours of HD video onto an 8 gig SDHC card.
Two, sure. Eight, no.

actually the quality is quite nice and these things avarage bit rates of 6-8 mb/s

Engadget has something against Aiptek and DXG. See also...

Based on user reviews, I bought an Aiptek HD camcorder and it seems to be a good value. I can't justify spending $600+ on a camcorder for making family videos.
Engadget(hd), what $200 camcorder do you recommend?

Hi.
Did you test this cam or just read the press release? Are your comments about the camera based on prior experience or what?
I think if this unit does 1080p for $200, that would work for a lot of people. The HD quality is not a matter of opinion is it?
Thank you.

Does this camcorder work with Apple's iMovie HD?
