Paramount to offer $10 rebate for select Blu-ray Disc upgrades
Who knows, maybe this holiday season will be a decent time to stock up on Blu-ray Discs. Exactly one month after hearing that Warner would be lowering the BD price bar this winter on a slew of its titles, in comes word that Paramount Home Video is preparing a promotion of its own. Reportedly, the studio will be offering movie collectors a $10 rebate when they upgrade select DreamWorks and Paramount DVDs to Blu-ray Discs. Blu-ray copies of Transformers, The Godfather, Old School, Stardust, Sweeney Todd and Zodiac will be eligible for the rebate, with the purchase having to be made by December 31st, 2009. For all the fine print (there's not too much), the read link has you covered.

Will this work with HD-DVDs? sending the barcode from the transformers hd-dvd? or only dvd?

No kidding, a little love for those that carelessly bought some hddvds would be nice.

Right. I have a few HD-DVD movies that I would not mind paying a few extra dollars for their respective Blu-ray version. Even though I paid about $10 or less for the HD-DVD versions

Why? Have your HD DVDs suddenly stopped playing?
(May well be cheaper to wait until you get a Blu-ray burner for your PC, and then just copy the movies across to a BD-R anyway, assuming you're planning to get a burner.)

Sounds great! Now if they can just make it an instant rebate instead of a mail in rebate and make it a price drop instead of an instant rebate, we'd having something.
Dropping the price of the players will not be enough to move most people over. Dropping the price of the movies will. For a hundred buck you can buy six DVDs on their release day at Walmart and have change left over for a box microwave popcorn. With Blu-rays you can't even buy four.
One for the price of two, ah-hell no. But you got to love Hollywood math.

This is great and all, but who the hell still has the reciept from their Transformers DVD they bought MONTHS ago?
I was stoked, but after reading the fine print of needing the reciept, they are basically saying f-you to the people wanting the rebate...
whatever
daaper @ Aug 18th 2008 11:46AM
you read that wrong. You only need proof of purchase tab from DVD. You need proof of purchase and receipt from Blu-ray

do they count Amazon or any other online retailer receipt? or just normal more expensive stores like BB
