MHD to be renamed Palladia HD, confuse HD viewers everywhere
As we've seen with Discovery's Planet Green, and -- to a lesser extent, History HD, Food HD and SPEED HD -- these high-def channels prefer to change up (or shorten, at least) their names every now and then. The latest to take on a new identity is MTV Networks' MHD, which is apparently being redubbed Palladia HD in DISH Network / TWC's EPG. We've all ideas the name change will filter down to all carriers in short order, but we're just letting you know to not get overly excited upon seeing it emerge in your channel lineup. Sadly, you actually haven't gained another channel -- it's just that the one with the loudest commercials has been renamed.

One of my favorite channels, and one of the reasons being that screen shot up there. :)

They should change the 10 hours of content they have first, before worrying about the damn name.
One can only watch the Gorillaz in Harlem so many times.
joe1234 @ Aug 10th 2008 5:11PM
Yeah but how many of their viewers are going to know that. What does that have to with music? Are they changing their Format?

Maybe this will make way for a true HD version of MTV to come out? I really don't understand how they pretend that's the HD version of MTV when they don't broadcast anything from the actual network (that I know of).
With the popularity MTV has always had, I'm surprised they're so far behind every other network when it comes to having HD content.

MHD has been showing episodes of FNMTV everyday I believe. But MHD is NOT the HD channel of Mtv. Its the HD channel that combines CMT, VH1 and Mtv. They have been showing more Mtv style music videos and less of the country stuff (thank you).
Mtv is really behind when it comes to HD though. While they shoot all of their concerts in HD, their TV shows are not. Comcast has "HD" versions of the reality shows in the OnDemand menus, but they are just digital versions of the same SD episodes, or stretched to widescreen.
2009 better mean more HD for Mtv. I want my Hills in HD!

You've got that right. MHD actually plays music...

when can we expect cinemax to turn into window sill hd or for disney to turn int rubber band hd or tbs to turn int chair hd seriously this is the hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh of the century
Miggity @ Aug 11th 2008 10:33AM
why not just "Palladia"? I already look forward to the day when we remove all the tacked on "HD"'s from the end of all these networks.
History "HD", Discovery "HD", ESPN-"HD" ... let's lose those HD's folks. Uncecessary.
Props to Discovery for doing it right with Planet Green channel. It's just "Planet Green." It is in high definition but they don't tack on a totally uncalled for "HD" in the name. They win a cookie for doing it right.
Too bad Planet Green channel suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks though.
Vic @ Aug 11th 2008 1:53PM
History, Discovery, ESPN, etc all have standard definition channels, hence the requirement for HD at the end to distinguish one from the other. There is, however, only going to be 1 Palladia channel, so I suppose the HD is unnecessary.
Miggity @ Aug 12th 2008 12:04PM
yeah but they are simulcasts of each other. its not really a different channel. when Food Network HD was showing different programming I can understand it. But when they are simulcasts of each other its totally uncalled for. If you need two letters in the corner to know if what youre watching is HD or not you got bigger problems.
Claeon @ Aug 30th 2008 1:11AM
Yup! Pretty friggin' stupid.
soraya @ Sep 1st 2008 4:07PM
i mean, seriously.
what they friggin need to worry about is changing the damn programming. omfg. someone pleazeeeeee tell how many more times can we watch Isle of Wight--whatever the hell that is--or Ryan Adams or Kanye West of Christina Aguliera performing every 10 hours.
when i first heard of this channel i was excited that it was a mix of music in HD. i mean, i thought i was gonna be in heaven.
And why is it when they do play music videos, its mostly country?? what about pop, rap, rock, metal, R&B??
i am just so pissed off with this network.
