Samsung reveals 50- / 58- / 63-inch 7 Series plasma HDTVs
Not a huge fan of the LCD HDTV? Is plasma more your style? Fantastic, because Samsung just took the (official) lid off of the already spotted 7 Series plasma lineup. Featuring the outfit's Touch of Color design, a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, daytime / nighttime calibration options and a DNIe Pro video processor, this trio makes no bones about which rival it's gunning for. The entire crew also features InfoLink RSS access, a USB 2.0 port (WiseLink Pro), DLNA compatibility, four HDMI-CEC jacks and 1080p panels. Read up on the full rundown of specs in the read link, and prepare to hand over $2,799.99 for the 50-inch PN50A760, $4,499.99 for the 58-inch PN58A760 or $5,499.99 for the 63-inch PN63A760 sometime next month.

The pricing on the 50" is tempting, but the 58" and 63" prices are show-stoppers. No, thanks. I'll take a Pioneer Kuro over that. I am willing to pay the price premium for a 2nd Gen Kuro, but not for a Samsung.

They aren't gunning for Pioneer, at least in how picture quality is concerned. That one million to one contrast ratio is a play on the testing specs, and it cannot do that kind of contrast with any real-world content. It's actual black levels with real movies/video is quite poor compared to the Pioneers and Panasonics. It's color accuracy is pretty good though, as well as the video processing.

It's funny that you think you know how well it's going to stack up against the others. Have you actually seen any of the units?

Unfortunately Samsung looks they are gunning for Pioneer prices in their 58- and 63-inch Plasmas.
I see by a quick look at Panasonic's prices (Samsung's true competitor), that both Sammy and Panny try to get a premium price for a 58"+ Plasma:
TH-65PZ750U -- $6,999.95
TH-58PZ750U -- $4,499.95
TH-58PZ700U -- $3,999.95
Meanwhile (off the top of my head), Pioneer's prices for their 2nd Generation Kuro's are:
50" -- $3,999
60" -- $4,999
50" Elite -- $4,999
60" Elite -- $5,999

Let's see some serious reviews and see how the street prices pan out. Let's face it, bottom line is usually "bang for the buck".
