Our friends in the Great White North can expect some great HD coverage of this summer's Olympic games, as the
CBC recently laid out its broadcast schedule, planning 282 hours of high definition coverage, while
TSN promises 150 hours of HD coverage. CBC will also throw in 400 hours of SD coverage, which, may not equal
NBC's numbers, but anyone who's viewed both can tell you without a doubt their presentation has trumped NBC's in its ability to satisfy sports fans (with the exception of their curling obsession during the Winter Olympics) with live action for many years. Online streaming of 1,500 hours of event coverage including live events will also be available, so we don't expect Canadians will miss a minute of the action from Beijing.

Well I know when CNBC last aired the winter games, Curling at 7pm got an easy 4-5X usual CNBC ratings at the time.
Trust me, the Olympics do bring in the ratings.

This is good news. CBCs coverage is excellent, if an event is on, you'll get to see the standings. I often found the American coverage would only show American athletes competing and sometimes not stick with an event if no nationals were placing.

After listening to Kyle Shewfelt's commentary during the gymnastic events on Monday,I realized how wonderful his insights were and how they helped to bring the real meaning of the Olympics home to the viewer.
Other commentators should be asked to view his performance in the commentator's booth in order to grasp the depth and meaning which he was able to convey.
Please, could we have more of his ilk rather that the screeching blow- by- blow accounts or endless repetitions of cliches or comments such as 'you must accelerate into the turn and accelerate out' in the swimming events.
Sometimes the mere moments of silence bring far more excitement and tension to the scene. Yes, I do use the mute button but, I'm sure you could come up with a solutions to the 'verbal noise'. Thanks, Lou Holmwood.
