We're not told whether or not all 16 of the digital Sony projectors in the Southcenter 16 are
4K or not, but AMC's still pretty proud of its latest cineplex. The 2,900-seat venue houses 16 screens (obviously) which will see imagery from all digital PJs, meaning that nary a strip of film will be shipped in. Additionally, the design of the facility was made to showcase the surroundings, with a vast window in the reception area that "on a clear day, frames Mount Rainier to look like the Paramount logo." Hey, look at that -- we just found you some plans this weekend up in the Pacific Northwest.

Sounds like a good time, maybe the theaters here in Tempe will take notice.
As for 4k, no movie has ever been completely produced in 4k so that's really no biggie yet.

The more they build or retrofit with digital projectors the better. Nothing sucks more than dirt, cuts, jumps and plain old worn out prints. I copy of a movie playing on 4 different screens really bites when you don't get to the movie during the first two days of release.
Of course that's one of the reasons I went with HD. :)

I went there today to check it out. Had the kids with me so I didnt get a chance to watch anything. I did verify with several employees that all 16 and digital though. It is part of a 250 Million dollar remodel of the Southcenter mall. It is currently only showing 3 movies though.
Dark Knight, Mamma Mia, and Space Chimps.

Actually, the reason why Southcenter shows so few movies is because of the Regal down the street. To avoid competition the two theatres cannot show the same movies at the same time... also, SC opened after the other movies had already came out, so they weren't able to buy them (I asked several employees about this and they all said the same thing).

Sont only makes a 4K projector, it's a piece of junk. They'll only be running probably 12 screens on your average day.

This theater is running The Dark Knight 31 times a day. LOL every 1/2 hour from 10am to 10pm and then every 15 minutes from 10pm to 11:15 LOL

There were 2 AMC Theatres that recently opened up in San Diego County with all 4K digital projectors. One is in Otay Ranch Town Center (Chula Vista, CA) at 12 screens and the other in Plaza Bonita (National City, CA) at 14 screens.
The only thing is not sure what kind of 4K projectors.

Just because no digital films haven't been made in 4k yet doesn't mean it won't make a difference -- major films are still being shot on celluloid, where the extra resolution in the projectors will count.
