HDTV manufacturers lowering prices to cope with bulging inventories
We've yet to be able to confirm any of this in our local stores, but HD Guru has it that major television manufacturers are lowering their retail prices in order to deal with swelling inventories. Despite upticks in demand from the upcoming Olympics, the overall economy here in America has apparently taken a toll on HDTV sales. Samsung, Sharp, Mitsubishi and Panasonic have reportedly notified their dealers of the drops, with some sets plummeting as much as $400. Of course, in-store (read: street) pricing will vary (sometime significantly) from the figures posted in the read link, but regardless, you ought to save a few bucks from just weeks ago. Oh, and if you're not desperate for a new flat-panel right this moment, let us remind you that Black Friday 2008 is barely two months away.

How do you get the end of November only being 2 months away?

I don't know what the author was thinking, isn't Black Friday in LATE NOVEMBER??? it certainly isnt 2 months off
That said, i welcome some lower pricing as i will be in the market for 3 LCD's shortly

Black Friday is how close? I didn't know Black Friday was in September this year.
tony @ Jul 17th 2008 12:27PM
hey, this works for me. Bestbuy had a 1 day sale on their 73" mitubishi hdtvs and knocked 1000 off. I got mine for 2k instead of 3. So my black friday came early, lol

Isn't Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving?
We're in July. Let's see, August... September... October... November.
Verifying count using fingers. Wouldn't it be barely 5 months away?

You're pretty good at math too I see.

Well, it's about time they lowered their severely bloated prices anyway. They are not following the laws of supply and demand. They are creating an artificially high price for their products. Why should it cost $5,000 or $10,000 for a TELEVISION? People that pay this much are the reason they keep the prices high. They know some damn fool will part with his large sum of money because he has to have the product.

Well I don't know what law of supply and demand you are following. But when products sell well, prices are higher. If the demand for the product drops off (as is the case with our slowing economy), inventory builds, and then prices fall to clear out the inventory. Plus, remember, TV manufactuers and retailers like to (and their shareholders require that they) turn a profit.
Remember, in the free market, nothing is worth more than someone is willing to pay for it.

I'm mad that Best Buy or Circuit City didn't knock off $200 more bucks for the Panny 50pz800u I wanted. No matter, Internet retailers saved the day... Now I just have to wait.

Darren drinking too much of his Blu Kool-aid again!

All those prices listed and no mention of lower end TV sets like in the 19"-32" range getting a price cut????
They need massive price cuts as well.
