WarGames returns to theaters via digital distribution & projection network
The Metropolitan Opera has enjoyed success through digital distribution in HD to move theaters, so of course our next pick for the Digital Broadcast Network is...Wargames? Thanks to the reduced cost of beaming the movie via satellite, National Cinemedia is giving the 1983 flick a one night only return in 300-plus theaters ahead of the 25 anniversary DVD release. This isn't the only movie enjoying the benefits of the technology, and seeing old movies on the big screen is a fine job for HD. However with great power comes great responsibility and we ask that it should be reserved for true classics of American cinema, like Top Gun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Goonies, Labyrinth. We're not sure WarGames makes the cut.[Via Pop Machine]

Aww, come on. WarGames is a 80's classic!!! First movie that made me want a computer.

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
That line alone makes this a classic. We all knew global thermonuclear war wouldn't actually happen in the film, but it did a fine job of taking you to the brink. I wonder if Reagan and Gorbachev ever watched it.

Just a heads up, if anyone near Kalamazoo, MI is planning on showing up to the screening there, it looks like my dad (Who played General Beringer, the general who would piss on a sparkplug if it would do any good) will be coming to that one. It's not 100% yet, but it's looking very likely.

That is AWESOME, I wish I lived in Michigan! I'd even make the drive - WarGames is one of my favorites, tell your dad his performance is a cornerstone of a great, great film from a long, long, longtime fan.

Top Gun is better than war games?!?!? I think not.
But this does BEG the question, where's MGM with their Blu-Ray's?!?! This is a perfect candidate for Blu. How about Red Dawn!?! Another 80s classic re-released on DVD.
Hey JimJim, tell your Dad I said "Hey". He was my favorite character in the whole ,movie: "Well that's a load of $#1t!... Oh, not you Mr. President!" Classic!

Top Gun was way better than War Games. Red Dawn would be sweet. A saw Goonies last year at my local Hippie theater. From what I hear it's the oldest working movie theater in the U.S. It's in Arcata, CA.

I'd gladly shell out ten bucks to see Ferris Bueller's Day Off in theaters again.

Awe, I love WarGames. Would never even remotely consider watching Labyrinth again. I truly hated that movie. And it doesn't deserve to be uttered in the same sentence with those other "classics." And at least WarGames wasn't a box office bomb.
If anything Labyrinth is more of a cult classic, one of those truly bad movies that for some reason, some people love. Kinda like Howard the Duck-- another stinker. Personally, I'd much rather see Willow.
