Online TV viewing catching on, traditional TV watching still preferred
We've known that individuals were turning to the internet to catch their favorite shows for some time now, but we aren't living in the future just yet. According to new research conducted by Nielsen and CTAM, most adults (94%) who "subscribe to cable or satellite television services prefer to watch television on traditional TV sets." Still, over a third of those surveyed who had a broadband connection admitted to watching at least one television program originally shown on TV via the internet, and nearly 40% of online TV viewers also use the world wide web to "get the scoop on actors and upcoming episodes." For numbers galore on this very topic, head on down to the read link and have a look.

I made the switch to 100% Internet viewing six months ago. FREE is a beautiful thing.

Well, it's actually not FREE. You pay for broadband don't you?!

Settle down, you can hook your computer to your television set then you're only limited by your tv set. Get an RCA to headphone jack for the audio, and a tv out card and some rca cables and boom you're in business. I use http://www.freetube.us.tc which I found off of downloadsquad, I've been using it since last year. I even managed to cut my cable bill, I just subscribe to basic tier cable which is like $25 bucks and just use that and other video sites.
I went from paying nearly $75 to just $25, eventually I'll cut off entirely from cable tv and even that $25 which I'd rather keep then shelling it out for channels that I don't even want.

I can't get on board with watching TV on the computer.
1. Watch TV sitting in office chair looking at a 20" screen and listening to PC speakers.
2. Watch TV laying on a couch looking at a 50" screen and listening to 5.1 surround sound.
I'll take number two hands down. I've watched a TV show or two online before (basically when the DVR takes a crap on a recording or I forget to record), but I certainly don't prefer it.

I ditched cable months ago and now watch the few shows I like on sites like Hulu and ABC.com via an old lappy plugged into the VGA port of my 42 inch plasma. Mmmmmmmm....good!

if hulu or another service would offer an equal bitrate to say verizon fios then sure it would be good for tv viewing, but as of now the pic quality is way to low. hell they could technically offer us a higher bitrate than dvd and give us higher quality standarddefinition shows. and then we need Hd equal to what we see on cable not lower hdlite
gamedude420 @ Jul 4th 2008 12:56PM
also 5.1 and 7.1 uncompressed surround sound would be nice as well. atleast as an option for the people with high enough speed internet

"Data was collected via a nationwide telephone survey of 1,200
adults and 300 teens who subscribe to standard cable, digital cable or
satellite television services"
lmao, oh yeah, that's a huge pot... how many people in this country watch TV??
