While AT&T is
mulling the idea of moving into Mississippi, MetroCast is busy boosting its relatively pathetic HD lineup. According to a flyer received by a subscriber in Starkville, the carrier is introducing six new HD channels effective immediately to bring the total to 16. Without further adieu, they are: Science HD (414), TLC HD (415), Animal Planet HD (416), Outdoor HD (417), Discovery HD (418) and HBO HD (506). The outfit is also tossing in a few analog and digital SD stations, but we can pretty much guess how much those will excite you. Oh, and we can't say for sure, but it sounds like customers in Kosciusko and Philadelphia may also see the newcomers.
[Thanks, Reed]

The Mississippi system for MetroCast is a recent acquisition. It was formerly Vista III. This is just the first channel upgrade for the V3 properties. Up until now, there had been no changes to their lineup, so this is the first step to aligning the MS system with the other systems (NH, CT, VA, MD, ME)

I got this mailer as well. I get analog cable via Metrocast (previous Northland) because it's included with my apartment. Otherwise, I'd be with satellite, since the cable HD line-up is so pathetic and expensive.
Something that I don't understand about the announcement: it lists NBC HD as a new channel (the last one on the list), but the local NBC affiliate, WTVA, does not yet broadcast digitally.

Wtva is such a bad channel/affiliate, i don't understand why they even list it. And this would excite me, since i live in starkville, but i already have access to hd programming via direct tv. I don't understand why there is a reluctance to switch from cable to satellite programming on the part of a customer

I've lived in Starkville for 3 years. Just upgraded to the Metrocast HD service BEFORE hearing this announcement and I was a bit dissapointed with the lack of channels (Old package had basically just the sports HD channels, ESPN, etc.) I'm thrilled to hear that finally I can watch Discovery in HD, but I'm still waiting for more bang for my buck.
