Hey, Time Warner Cable. We've been holding back on asking this for awhile, but we just can't button our lips anymore: Ever heard of a little place called Raleigh? You know, that huge, sprawling area also referred to as the
Triangle? Evidently not, as the past two
updates in North Carolina have been aimed directly at the Greensboro region without nary a pat on the bottom for us folks parked just an hour so down I-40. Nevertheless, we can begrudgingly say that we're very excited that our pals up in Winston-Salem / Forsyth County (and the greater Triad area, from what we can tell) have gained a succulent trio of HD channels: ESPNews HD (565), Disney HD (566) and ABC Family HD (567). No, TWC isn't saying when (if ever) these will filter down to the Triangle, but seriously, our patience is growing exceptionally thin. [
Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]
[Thanks,
Prime]

Hey, just a second. You guys in the Triangle (& even Fayetteville) have superior Scientific Atlanta DVR software. Seriously! Check it out...our software is out-dated with a clumsy, SD guide/menu. I've swapped out my box and even talked with them about it. No dice on updated boxes. Unless you've heard differently?
tsavage @ Jul 1st 2008 3:03AM
Once again , Charlotte gets screwed. this is pathetic. give us some more channels already.
Prime @ Jul 1st 2008 12:36PM
This is heresay, but word on the street is that Charlotte will be the first to get U-Verse, possibly end of this year or first thing next year.
Prime @ Jul 2nd 2008 9:39AM
Clarification to my first reply:
Charlotte will be the first - in North Carolina - to receive U-Verse.

Yay for us even though the Disney HD and Family HD are channels I won't watch. Just goes to show that the Piedmont Triad is the heart of NC......
Mark @ Jul 1st 2008 7:18AM
It's a shame that the digital service in the Triad sucks! It's completely unwatchable:

We may have more HD channels over here, but service sucks so, so badly.

Hear hear! I've wanted to comment the last few days as I've seen other TW areas get more and more HD channels and here we sit with a pretty pathetic sampling...Last I heard/read...RDU was TW's 3rd largest market. They need to start acting like it (and how 'bout some Bravo...sheesh...talk about embarrassing)!
Dana @ Jul 1st 2008 9:24AM
guidedbyvoip,
What are you smoking? Our Scientific Atlanta DVRs are now AWFUL - so bad that I am seriously considering a media center pc with cablecard.
Yeah, why would TWC care about the Triangle? It's not like there many tech people here. (nod to This is Spinal Tap's conversation about losing the Boston gig)
guidedbyvoip @ Jul 1st 2008 3:00PM
Dana, I'm not saying either markets have the Greatest DVR EVAR. I moved from Fayetteville to Greensboro and the DVRs here are horrible. On my plasma the menus are fuzzy, the search function is teh suck, and resolution options (forcing 720p/1080i) is non-existent.
Has something happened in RDU to the boxes? The HD DVRs in Fayetteville weren't bad; they had pretty decent storage and this may come as a shock....but my box never crashed on me. (Fayetteville TWC I believe is subsidiary of TWC in the Triangle/nc.rr.com)
Prime @ Jul 2nd 2008 9:42AM
To guidedbyvoip:
You should be able to force resolutions. What box do you use?
NaviGATR @ Jul 1st 2008 9:58AM
Has there been any rumblings at all about more HD channels in the Charlotte area? I despise Time Warner with every fiber of my being, but I'm stuck with them for a while since I love my HD Tivo.
Bronce @ Jul 1st 2008 10:28AM
I continually check this site hoping I see the combination of "TWC" and "Triangle" and/or "Raleigh". Nada. Yeah sure I'm happy for my parents in winston...but I'm pretty sure my mom doesn't know where the HD channels are and my dad would be fine with just ESPN.
I didn't know we were the 3rd largest market for TWC...knowing that it's unbelievable that we get such lack of attention. Took us forever to get ESPN-HD and now I get to watch as even the midwest gets hooked up while I continue to wait.
HeelHater @ Jul 1st 2008 11:38AM
Had no idea my favorite site had ties to Wolfpack nation! Nice!! The only bad thing about the triangle resides in Chapel Hole.
Kevin M. @ Jul 1st 2008 12:15PM
Forget Raleigh. When is Charlotte, the largest city in N.C., going to get some new channels?
DeaconGTG @ Jul 1st 2008 12:31PM
Triad > Triangle. Go Deacs.
Prime @ Jul 1st 2008 12:49PM
I believe what you mean to say is "Go Heels!" :)
DarrenL @ Jul 1st 2008 4:25PM
Go Pack is the correct anwser
Case @ Jul 1st 2008 5:16PM
We just got this trio of HD channels here in Columbia, SC as well. TW does a pretty good job of keeping us updated with the HD. Now if we could only get SciFi HD, things would be great.
mbumb2k @ Jul 1st 2008 9:36PM
So I've noticed that engadget seems particularly interested in the RDU/RTP area. This is great for me, since i live up the road from the airport, but I've gotta ask why? is engadget based somewhere in this area? affiliates here? Why all the triangle love?
Darren @ Jul 1st 2008 4:09AM
Maybe you'll better understand after seeing my profile picture. :)
Vic @ Jul 3rd 2008 12:24PM
Great news for the Winston/Greensboro area, but seriously...when are you gonna give Charlotte some love?
