If DirecTV or Dish can begin broadcasting 1080p television with a large number of channels, it could have a serious cascade effect on traditional Cable Companies - they'd be forced to upgrade their infrastructure, which then means their arguments for tiered access or bandwidth caps would be pretty useless.
Come on, DirecTV. 1080p would be nice, but the side effects would be much, much nicer.

I doubt that this has anything to do with them testing 1080p television. Moreso it's Richard's own speculation.
