Cannon PC showcases Media Center with six CableCARDs

Ah, companies that don't just rest on their laurels. Not even a month after we heard that Cannon PC would be offering up dual- and quad-CableCARD rigs, in flies word that said company is demonstrating a machine capable of handling half a dozen CableCARDs. Yeah, six cards controlled simultaneously by one computer. For those curious, the devices in question were ATI's Digital Cable tuners, and while gloating about something is one thing, it's another to host a video up on the 'net for all to see. Six high-definition programs get recorded at once in the video just after the break -- c'mon, you know can't resist checking out such a feat out.

That's just all sorts of hot sex.

It's really quite stunning the technology Microsoft and ATI have engineered. Six CableCARDS in one box, recordinng six HD shows at once and presumably can extend those out to six extender devices, all while maintaining full fidelity and low CPU usage on the host PC.

I mean, what else out there can even get close to this?

And did I mention this is all with the best user interface in the industry and no monthly fees (beyond the rental of the CableCARDs)?

Why people still pay for TiVo boggles my mind.

This is absurd. An M-Card is already capable of decoding 6 streams.

When was the last time there was actually 6 things on TV at the same time that you wanted to watch, AND they were all in HD? It's a cool demo, but you would have to be someone that likes everything and watches TV like 20 hours a day to really need a setup like that.
