Digital Playground to shoot with RED ONE 4k cameras
Just last week, we heard that Digital Playground was going true blue. Now it's going RED? Yes indeed, the adult film powerhouse has committed to using the 4k RED ONE camera to shoot its future films. Reportedly, the high-resolution camcorder has already been used to capture ten films in the past two months (staying busy, aren't we?), and apparently the results have been so, um, crystal clear, that the outfit is planning to continue using them. Talk about staying one step ahead of the curves.

I really can't see any theatre with the money to buy 4k projection equipment showing anything by Digital Playground.
Even still, do people WANT that much definition with these, um, "films"?!? Ugh...

The resolution is warranted. I won't be happy until I can see what they had for lunch.

film can get over 8k, film has n defined res, but it the output depends on many varying factors. other than resolution its the color range and digital is just getting close to the color range of film. I've used the red one for a few projects. recently did a local commercial using the redone.
some theatres are even getting 8k digital projectors

An 8k projector? No film has ever been scanned at 8k.
Hell, no film as ever been completely edited at 4k.
gamedude420 @ Jun 16th 2008 11:37PM
u can edit 4K but not in real time. you edit at a lower res first. computer hardware isnt that god yet. film can be scanned at higher than 8k though. will eventually.

The premium version of this camera is under 3k, so why not?
The Pepto Pimp @ Jun 17th 2008 10:24AM
Under $3k? Do you have some that fell off a truck or something? That's about a $15,000 discount.
PM me, I'll buy one from you for under $3k!

try more like $40-100k
because you just get the camera. no harddrive, no lens , filters etc
this isnt a consumer or prosumer cam its a professional cam, so lens and all come at seperate prices, and a lens can cost several grand by itself. :)
waiting for the epic, and scarlet.

I want as much def as I can get but if they are just going to filter it and soften it up then what is the point ?
